I'm going back to Dial-Up!

prefer it to be the router. More chance of getting it sorted ...
 
so netgear actually sucks

hey guys.
latest update, im busy typing this from my adsl connection, using up bandwidth.
turns out, after two more phone calls and no help, the problem lay with my router. netgear sucks!!!! i didn't know wat a bridge connection was, im assuming it means, using the router as a modem only. anyway, after going to the link, thanks very much MrNutz (this link isnt in the navigation menu), i changed to use only as a modem.then setup using winXP, and well here i am.

so the moral of this thread? dont use NetGear.
now, who knows why i cant use it as a router AND modem?
 
I have a simlar problem.

I've got the Billion 7300M Adsl modem. The modem connects (via PPPoE), but no data comes through.

I did a test, and it said:

ADSL Sync: Passed
ATM OAM segment ping: Failed
ATM OAM end to end ping: Failed

I tried the bridge mode, but it asked for settings like ATM class (UBR, CBR, UBR, NRT-VBR)

PCR is o
SCR is 0
MBS is 0

if i try the bridge mode on default settings, then the PPPoE doesnt connect...

Must be pebkac error dude. I have been using netgear routers for close on 4 years no problem. :cool:
 
I use a small third party program called RASPPPOE, and it helped solve connection problems for me. READ the readme before installing. http://www.monzoon.net

Welcome to RASPPPOE, a PPP over Ethernet (short: PPPoE) implementation for Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, NT 4.0, 2000, XP and .NET. PPPoE as a method for establishing PPP connections through Ethernet adapters is described in RFC 2516 and is used by many broadband service providers to allow authentication and maintain the familiar "dial-up experience" when connecting to the Internet through a broadband modem. Although there are other PPPoE implementations for Windows, this one still has its unmatched strong points:

Seamless integration into the operating system. This protocol makes Ethernet network adapters appear as "modems", allowing PPPoE to be easily used within the standard Dial-Up Networking framework.
Compatibility: This protocol supports Internet Connection Sharing (including on-demand dialing), power management (Standby and Hibernate) as well as multiprocessor systems.
Completeness: This protocol can not only act as a PPPoE Host (client), but also as an Access Concentrator (server), fully implementing RFC 2516.
Compactness: The complete protocol is less than 250 KB. Yet no concessions were made in the implementation.
 
i have no doubt its a pebkac error, hence my asking on the forum where this problem would occurr (or at least, where im going wrong). i mean wat setting would prevent the router sending things to the pc? iv checked the firewall, no problems appear there.il only use 3rd party software as a last resort...
 
i had a similar problem when i first set up my Netgear DG632. Everything was testing ok but there was just no connectivity no matter what i tried. It eventually just started working all of a sudden and I've had no trouble since
 
Summoner... u legend. In the end, it just starts working by itself.
I started going over every single setting. Enabling then disabling
or vice versa. Once i had done that, it just worked. Obv, the router
settings hadnt all been applied one hundred percent and i had to
force the settings by manually setting them all.

So: Even if the Netgear page SAYS the setting is what it is, just click
and unclick everything to force the settings to be correct.

Pretty crap learning that the hardway.
 
Please keep in mind these modems are basically shipped for the EU market, more specifically UK. So if you live there, then yes it probably will work with one click. The importers in this country though just change a plug and/or insert a converter without bothering to modify the product for local market. :mad:

Mine still came with the original British spec pots filter :rolleyes:
 
Dude most likely a Telkom problem...

ADSL problems:
70% Telkom Exchange Related problems - 20% Telkom Line Problems
-10% ISP related problems.
