What led you to the decision if you don't mind me being curious? It's weird when a person who loves meat just suddenly stops.

lol @ tree hugger comment!!

Dude you must be mad, vegetarian is acceptable.. buy VEGAN?!

Good luck... Hope you don't get fat with all the carbs you going to eat.

dude, you will either starve to deatch, or eat a lot pizza, pasta, bread with peanut butter on it, which will make you fat, which also sort of will kill you.. i wonder how long you will manage without meat :p i mean, think of the braais, the nice spare ribbs, hamburgers, sirloin, fillet

All the more meat for the rest of us . Clearly you have lost your mind. Not to mention losing your health a few years down the line as well......

I'm just going to have to eat more meat now. The balance will be maintained.

Admirable dude, but might I suggest trying being a vegetarian first. At least keep eggs and dairy as options for a while as you get accustomed to not eating meat. I reckon the jump straight from meat eater to total vegan is very extreme, and very difficult to stick with.

I stopped eating all red meat and chicken in October last year. Now I eat the occasional fish and I still eat dairy and eggs and the transition from meat eater to that was relatively easy. Vegan *might* still be an option for me, but it's going to take some more time to get accustomed to a restricted diet.

I've reduced my intake of meat products by 70% in the last 3 years.

I've also reduced my cheese consumption by about 60%, but replaced the nutrional values by drinking my coffee made with 2% boiled milk (and one less sugar and less coffee, being a java addict)

I think moderation is the key, we should all eat less in general.

I've tried a vegetarian approach in the past,
but after 3 weeks I developed a deeprooted need to have a steak - unbelievable how relentless the carnivore within remains.

Good luck with your new nutrional values.

I bought kassler chops for the first time yesterday. Have yet to cook it.

How does it taste?

Dude are you serious, do you know what you are missing out on :p

But seriously, respect bro, welcome to our side.

If you are going to be strict with your new diet I would suggest reading up on what certain ingredients are (like the emulsifiers & colourants of certain products that just have numbers on them) as some are not too friendly.

But otherwise enjoy the new lifestyle, hope you have a better time in restaurants getting your 'order' just right :D

I went off red meat 10 years ago, after realising that most of us don't give a 2nd thought to the way that our food is prepared. As long as there's meat, some sort of carbs, we're satisfied. Most of the time, it was too oily and there was no balance between the nutrients.

So, after being at a braai where there were no vegetables at all and then having a steak dinner which left me feeling uncomfortable, I tried giving up red meat (mammal, in my view) for a month. Then 2, then 3. It was easier than I thought and just the raised awareness of my nutritional intake was amazing. Discovering that we over-eat so much was staggering.

I still eat dairy, fish and chicken, but don't miss the red meat at all. I agree that switching straight to vegan might be too extreme. Also, if you do, take care to balance the calcium and proteins somehow

You should seriously consider becoming a fruitarian. Those are the most noble people on Earth. They only eat fruits and vegetables that have died the natural way (by falling on a scientists head). Anything else is just plain murder!

Now... I just need to finish this breakfast... mmmmmmmmmmmm bacon........

Vegan = no cheese so = no pizza!

For every animal you don't eat, I will eat 3 :D
