Imagine Uncapped Feedback

Morning guys (and gals!) :D

I do have news and things are looking great and on track, assuming techie and legal sides are all covered. Which both us and MWeb are committed to getting sorted.
We just need to work hard from both sides and we'll be up and running for 1st June!
We are expecting the to be able to start testing our systems integration shortly.

We also had an interesting meeting with AfricaINX yesterday. They are thinking on some good pricing and concepts although it's not all formed yet. Mind you we are a little concerned that their bandwidth isn't as great as it should be, however they do have a good redundancy feature. As far as i'm aware, we're meeitng on Monday to discuss this all further and bounce heads on the best way to do a 'real' uncapped product. Right now they are talking about a shaped 20:1 service... we are trying to offer the thought that it's either 20:1 or not... shapped just makes it more like 30/40/50:1... but let's see how it goes.

@Peter

Do you have any idea as how the migration will proceed? Will it be an on the fly type of thing or a month's notice?

That would be a good question to ask...... because IS is shaping in a really horrible fashion here..... when there are two or three of us online during the day, just browsing, the web is unusable....

My web is hardly usable with ONE person!!!

My word I feel like punching babies!!!!!!!! :(:(:(:(:(:(

Trying to download some drivers..... SIMPLE DRIVERS from NVIDIA.... Gonna take me 7 HOURS!!!

AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaghhghgghghghghhghghghghghghghghg

Yup. Getting 16KBps if I use several threads simultaneously.
I'm still holding back on my Windows and Linux updates.... I don't want to have nightmares.

i was hoping for some more :) on the :( slow news.... :D
Yeah - sorry I was hoping for a gung-ho approach where we all had the answers. Although I am expecting this to all happen at a much greater speed now! :D

What we will do is email all our current clients the options, as soon as the MWeb one is available. Even if it's the last day of the month then we will ensure that your old accounts are stopped before the new month. Again, I am hoping to have most of this up and running so we can do it by the end of next week.

My sister commented that you can puch her youngest if you like. Apparantly, it's not abuse if you fly them out of the country for their beatings...

Just canceled with MWeb been with them since sunday. Horrible line speeds, just trying to upload images and general surfing.
Any suggestions on a new ISP anyone providing a uncapped semi-shaped account ?

Thanks ppedrick for all the info.

ps. Anyone heard of plugg.co.za

Welcome to the thread Redeemer30!
Although I have bad news for you...

There are essentially only 2 'low-cost' uncapped ADSL accounts out there at the minute.
- MWeb
- IS Uncapped Basic

Others to consider on the market:
- Afrihost and MyISP offer a version of uncapped where they buy each GB you use from IS... hence the throttling and shaping issues.
- Branded Internet R8 per GB although not even Telkom can understand how they can afford to do this as it's less than their base IPC cost.
- Other per GB models... better but kinda takes you back to 2009 in the internet revolution and still costs a lot more than teh bad uncapped services.
- The old Express or a Business uncapped account... however, you're talking x2 to x6 the cost!
- There is also a new potential and we're meeting them on Monday. Will let you know how that discussion on their service goes.

Basically, there are two account types and plugg.co.za, Axxess, blah blah blah... also just resell the IS Uncapped Basic, like we do.

So unfortunately you are stuck with two decisions:
- Pay a company money for a sub-standard uncapped product and try to help force them to perform.
- Go back to per GB and wait for others to force the major companies hands.

Not really a decent decision either way I'm afraid as it seems like a race between IS and MWeb as to who will actually produce an account worth selling.

Harsh but would be glad to hear other people's thoughts and comments on where we can go from here.

P. :D :(

Ppedrick.... the last few days I've heard about more and more people also getting issues with Mweb.... but a friend of mine with a 4Mb account has no issues at all, so I'm unsure about the issue that there may be with some of the Mweb accounts. On the other hand, some IS users have little to no issues.... :D

Thanks ppedrick wow a lot of info.

I see that some resellers are selling semi-shaped uncapped from IS, is this possible ?

Well at the moment mweb is not looking like they are interested in helping with the slow speeds, so I might have to look at IS :)

If anyone has any more info or help on what service is best including speeds would be great.

Thanks

Afrihost latency is a bit hectic at the moment but they admitted to having a problem and they said they are busy looking into it. I might cancel my uncapped just for a short while until the good latencies are back in gear..

Stay AWAY. The plugg.co.za uncapped is just as slow. I have a plugg.co.za uncapped account. Its in fact the same account sold by all IS resellers.
