Imagine Uncapped Feedback

Any feedback on latencies in the cape town area, am keen to find out i have multiple clients who want to move over but are looking at me for advice. Dont like mweb and prefer IS based products

Tests that we're doing seem to suggest that the issues are two-fold:

- Telkom IPC exchanges
- Pingtest.net etc. being inaccruate due to exchange issues
(shaping might account for a little but not the issues other network users have reported)

Please use your command line prompt to check on latencies to specific locations.
e.g. Imagine website
ping 196.34.88.6 - should be roughly 60-80ms from Cape Town to Joburg

I still haven't had any feedback on the Uncapped Basic account and online gamers.
Remember that this account is not the same as the Afrihost IS backbone account and so you can't compare them for this.

hi ppedrick

Thanks, that is a good suggestion. My ADSL line is unfortunatley with SAOL at the moment so I can't get my line upgraded to 4 Mbps before the end of the month (and already have an uncapped account with them at the moment). Guess I'll have to wait until next month then :(

Yeah I have the same issue. I had to get them to upgrade me from the 384 Uncapped to a "4MB with 3GB data @ R513" for April. You can then cancel your account at the same time. Its slightly more expensive, but only for the month of April and at least you get your 4MB line. Only a few days till 4MB cant wait!

Yeah - weve been chatting about the development of the Tier 2 providers such that we can now deal with Telkom for you but offer you access to every company's ADSL products rather than just the one.

That way you can chose MWeb, IS, Vodacom, VoIP, hosting services etc all from one company. Therefore the Tier 2's are all about service and being flexible rather than pretending it's their products. The Tier 2's are t as a kind of customer champion and essentially try and give you the best service and products possible.

Could really make life so much easier for everyone especially as there are so many issues with Telkom and other providers.

What do you think?

Yea I am getting f*** all on torrents. Still on the imagine 4meg after hours uncapped. Torrents been crawling all day (+/- 50Kb/s) it has creeped up a little in the last hour (+/- 150 Kb/s) but still slower than the 400Kb/s i was getting about a week ago (Pre Mweb uncapped)

Steam downloads going at +/- 200Kb/s so all in all, the internets has seemed a little slow this past week. Sux :-(

OK - this blows... We'll push them harder on Monday and try and find out how they're shaping this. 1/3rd service speed isn't good enough in our book.

I know that there are now exchange issues and also general service issues with the whole system now that more and more people are signing up to the uncappeds. So some problems will not even be IS's - however this is definitely their time to shine and show that they have the capacity and infrastructure to do this better than anyone.

Anybody on a 4MB line have anymore feedback on the new imagine uncapped home package? (or any of the I.S uncapped packages e.g axxess ect..)

Peter if you can take the ADSL line from telkom and give a universal discount on it, then add the MWeb, IS, and eventually Telkom uncapped product to the menu to allow easy switches. You will get a lot of guys from here as you will be saving us the hassle of doing the switches ourselves.

Then add VAS's on top of that like:

-VOIP (SIP)
-Hosting
-Separate Email hosting( so your clients don't have to change their email addresses every time they change ISP's they can be [email protected])
-Email to fax and fax to email
-Offsite data backup

Thats all I can think of offhand.

Thanks Shayd

Thats the plan as we already have 2 Joburg data centers for web/server hosting with one launching in Durban in a month.
Combine that with the xx million voice minutes we already have passing through our system we can offer some very decent cheap home call costs.

I'm in the process right now of modeling how it could work. Essentially there are issues with which company does what to let us interact with them. Right now with each of these companies either barely offering a commission or insisting on customer ownership it makes the model quite hard to manage when you add dealing with Telkom being such a headache for only a few Rand a month.

So assuming that we will be losing money selling the line and data package I need to know that the other products will be used (i.e. useful enough). Annoying that it always boils down to money but as long as we can clear R4-50 a client per month then it bcomes worth it.... I think.

woulda thought that a 5 percent margin woulda been more fair for an uncapped reseller... as the support cost is largely moved to you guys

Thank you for that - I've just sent Desree at SAOL an email to do this with my account - but am curious how long it will take for them to get your line upgraded!

I have been using 4M uncapped since yesterday; I am not a torrent user but hoping to get decent download speed from file sharing servers. I use my account only during the office hours and despite I have a premium account on Rapidshare my download speed never exceeded 8K/s so far; when I was with Afrihost/Gconnect I used to get around 400K/s.
So most probably this setup is not good for me and planning to cancel soon as I had a 3 days test account for less than R50.

I think that is what people are finding on the 'uncapped' accounts in general.
We just resell the IS Uncapped Basic acount. If you are after truely high speed downloads then the After Hours account is for you @R979.
http://www.imagine.co.za/home/uncapped-afterhours.html

We have been promised by IS that their service levels will be significantly better on this service.
They said the same thing on the Uncapped Basic - although you are the only one to date I have heard who's getting terrible speeds, rather than just 'slower'.

I will discuss this with them as you clearly haven't downloaded huge amounts of data in just a few days.

Maybe can you can PM me your IP and phone number and we can try and trace you back to the exchange/line. It is possible that your Telkom exchange is overloaded but unlikley. Although I would like to test as must as we can whilst you're still using this account. I don't like the idea of a custoemr leaving our service when it's not our fault... therefore want to be 100% that there's nothing else going first and at least ensure you're had decent 'custoemr service' from us.

Cheers
P.

P.S. Although I did just forget that we also sold the IS After Hours (Express+) service cheaper than anyone else too. So you might want to give that a go.

This morning is awful!

Can't load webpages, mybroadband takes like 10 refreshes to get it to load. Then it takes FOREVER to load.

Can't even load up speedtest to check...

Started downloading a 100kb file and it started downloading at 8 bytes per second!!!!

What is going on???!!!

Ok surely this is UNACCEPTABLE!????

My upload speed is faster than download... 384kbps.

Looks like all IS uncapped accounts are suffering. My 4096 account from Axxess is stuck at 0.8mbps today :(
