Imagine Uncapped Feedback

Hey guys,
I'm following this up to find out.
Pooky - are you speeds on all webpages and can you PM me your locatoin so we can put you on our 'crap speeds' map - we're trying to find out if there are paterns in the exchanges etc.

Can you also make sure that you're not using the speedtests and ping test to define your account. They seem to be taking an amazing amount of strain at the minute and the tests we have done using command line pings and speedtests do show significantly different results.

Again, we are following this up with IS but the extra information is very helpful for us to try and determine where the failure of service is.

Cheers

How is the progress on the Client Centre to monitor usage etc.?

We've had a definitve 'no' from IS right now... were believe that this is just because of the amount of work launching these accounts have caused. In a month or two it might be a very different story.

I have been using 4M uncapped since yesterday; I am not a torrent user but hoping to get decent download speed from file sharing servers. I use my account only during the office hours and despite I have a premium account on Rapidshare my download speed never exceeded 8K/s so far; when I was with Afrihost/Gconnect I used to get around 400K/s.
So most probably this setup is not good for me and planning to cancel soon as I had a 3 days test account for less than R50.

hey Afrikali,

I'm sorry for not replying sooner but stupidly left my laptop in the office last night.
We tested our connections here on Rapidshare yesterday afternoon and we were getting 200k-350k each time. So now we have escalated the issue with IS so that they can check to see if there is anything specific in your set up. Otherwise it could well be your exchange... however, I don't like passing the blame without knowing for sure.

I'm sorry I couldn't help in the time frame as getting feedback from such a large organisation as IS on one individual account can take up to 5 days, which is a lot longer than we have.

Thanks

Peter

My speed is still around 6K/s today from Rapidshare same as last 2 days, and remember I have a premium rapid account here, suppose to give me top speed.
Can anyone else comment on Rapid speed here please.

Yeah - we now have a lot of escalated enquiry requests with IS and also have called the management to see what's up.

Someone's pressed the wrong button or soemthing and we're waiting to hear back when it's sorted... again, we believe that this is effecting all of their Uncapped Basic accounts which is bloody annoying for all the resellers.

I was thinking of signing with Imagine next month... so this is bad news for me
Resisting mweb here but...

These IS uncapped accounts arent that great at all. I'm on 384k, been using the account for about 2 days, and get about 12-16kB/s downloading ATI drivers. news server is throttled to 10-15kB/s, torrents are 5-6kB/s. I get the same speeds all day, even 3 am. My capped IS account runs full speed, and switching between the two highlights the throttling. I've paid for april, so will see see how it goes. If my total usage on the uncapped account is low (for the month), just gonna cancel it.

Hate to say this but DigiChilli was better when it worked. But its priced a bit high now.

Yeah - we're turning up the pressure and hope to see an improvement from IS shortly.
They can't just release a competing product and then forget it... and I'm sure they won't... as their name is on this and they have the capability to out-perform everyone in the market.

I beleive that the other resellers, like us are having the same conversations and so they can only step up their game or stop providing the service.

One thing I would say though is that we've notice a lot less performance on teh 384k than the 4M lines, which stands to reason based on the poor contention capabilities for people on that line speed. It'd be great to see Telkom offer proper line speeds from 1M, 4M, 8M+... or just bite the bullet and say 'whatever the exchange can provide you'.

That way the Tier 1s can ensure a simple quality of service and the contention ratios for line speed drop aaway and are taken as a whole.
I've posted a lot more on this on other threads. Especially the Contention Ratio explained thread by Shayd.

Frustrated and hoping for change... will report back as soon as we know more.

Hi Peter,

I have a 4mb account with Imagine and it's been great so far...until about 2 days ago.

It looks like I'm being throttled to a 1mb-1.5mb connection, getting HTTP download speeds of max 150kbp/s (I have tested this both during the day, as well as after 1am).

I have used about 35-40GB's worth of data so far. Any idea whether we get throttled in the same way as Afrihost?

Thanks!

This is not like the Afrihost account where Afrihost themselves can decide on your line speed and shaping.

This should be a 100% shaped system that is consitent throughout the day and night supplied directly from IS... the offical name is IS Uncapped Basic.

It does seem though as if IS are having one or two issues with their system over the last day and we've just literally had another conversation with the management to ask when we can expect to hear back from the techies on what is going on.

I can't believe that the IS service will remain this way but will keep you informed once we have their feedback.

This morning is awful!

Can't load webpages, mybroadband takes like 10 refreshes to get it to load. Then it takes FOREVER to load.

Can't even load up speedtest to check...

Started downloading a 100kb file and it started downloading at 8 bytes per second!!!!

What is going on???!!!

Everyone has problems today. I'm using my telkom account and it's as bad as everyone's. Besides, it's month end, which always sucks speedwise, with everyone on capped, doing the "use it or lose it" internet ritual they have have grown up with. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...e-s-Afrihost-FIXED-CAP-account-dog-slow-today

Yeah - we've also highlighted a few issues on the 384k accounts so there is something not quite right... so hopefully it'll all be sorted soon and also the general network slowness will also improve.

Just some feedback and test results for this product so far.

The account appears to be fast when running speedtest, but the ping is terrible:

Youtube vids acts a but strange though. Most vids start off well without me having to wait for it to buffer, then all of a sudden the buffering will just stop completely, thus me having to pause the vid for 1-2mins before it even starts buffering again. From then on the video will buffer very slow

Modern warfare 2 has a high latency with roughly 5 out of 10 bars. (bars being yellow)

Torrents are slow, even after 1AM (which can be expected I guess). It use to be much faster last week though. I get an avg d/l speed of 50-90KB/s. Last week it downloaded at 300+KB/s

HTTP downloads are going strong @ 300-350KB/s

Ok, there is some sort of thresholding involved. It's now 1st of April and my downloads are flying....

edit:

Yup definitely, especially w.r.t latency. See my results now:

I'm also getting almost full green bars in MW2.

Peter, any way that you can confirm this with IS?

What you are seeing is merely the per gig accounts no longer being operable.

The lines have freed up, now last month's gigs are no longer all running full throttle, by those who needed to use them up...

A problem of high R/GB pricing. Uncapped users will not even know where in the month cycle they are in and should actually help alleviate the month end rush (provided enough people move over).

Hey guys,
I've just been catching up with our tech team and the major problem that has been in effect from 24-72 hours (dependant on where you were) seems to have been alleviated. We'd had some other reports about authentication and disconnections but we're continually pushing IS to improve this now and it seems to be working.

Regarding the throttling after a cap I really don't believe that this is the case right now but we are trying to get confirmation. The reason i say this is because we're hammering the crap our of our test lines and despite the 'tech errors' we're not seeing drops in capacity. ;)

The IS Uncapped Basic account is not the same product as Afrihost, MWeb, Vodacom etc are selling as it is managed solely by IS. They are the company with more bandwith than anyone and the capablility to outperform everyone in this marketplace.

This is why we've backed this product and believe that every customer should know exactly which product they are buying. Not all IS products are the same and ultimately you need to know which Tier 1 product you are being resold... it's a massive failing in this industry that I feel has been the cause of such poor competition and pricing for a while... but not anymore.

I'd be grateful if everyone could spread the word on this. IS Uncapped Basic..
Everyone needs to know what they are buying and not what the company that's over-branding it.

Within the next 1-3 weeks we'll be launching other products around your ADSL account that will save you money. We intend to be as transparent a Tier 2 provider as possible and I want this to have ahuge knock on effect in the industry. Tier 2 providers offer services 'around' ADSL and connectivity. They do not overbrand another company' product.

Anyway *stands down from soap box* - The connections been fixed and the service if flying again. Please either email or PM me if you find any more issues or have quesitons.

Cheers

P.
