Imagine Uncapped Feedback

can any 1 tell me what the setting should be in my router to get this account to work with out "dialing up"
eg the VPI / VCI numbers and if it is LLC based or the other one.

I can use the account fine with my router in bridge mode and just dial up, but now that I have uncapped, and cant connect from both the pc's at home, I need to save the username and password in the router so I can use the account on both PC's

Thanks in advance.

Is this the same uncapped basic that axxess is selling?

I'm sorry, I don't know either, hence my rant about clarity from the resellers now...

Where could one see IS product offerings? Who is reselling what product specifically (not generally IS Uncapped). Is there a list of IS Uncapped products? Just for interest sakes.

There are only a few true IS uncapped products. Their business ones and the IS Uncapped Basic (which is permanently shaped but not throttled).

The other products are 'per GB' products whereby the Tier 2 reseller can throttle and shape the connection according to their desire. I'm not sure which companies are using this either, except for Afirhost... however, you are right... this should all have been very clear before now.

The IS website is useless, so no "list of products" (edit: like link, or speadsheet) or the like? Your activity and forthcoming attitude deserves to be commended, I shall remember this ISP in future changes.

Thanks hambone and yeah, IS do not want customers and make that very clear.

They concentrate on very large business and leave everyone else to resellers (e.g. they host most of the valuable SA website content). It's a good model as you can pump out huge volumes, concentrate on infrstructure and roll-out with just a relatively few 'clients' to deal with. Selling ADSL to the home users is damned hard work for very little monetary gain but can become very profitable with large numbers.

Again, I know I keep saying this but it's another reason we chose the IS Uncapped Basic... they have the size, scale and we're betting that if anyone can make it work well for the entire country then IS can.

... you'll just have to buy it through a reseller and make sure it's the right type of account that you're buying!

Yeah, the speeds are terrible!!! I signed up yesterday, connected the account after work this evening and now at 00:07 (shouldnt be shaped) I am getting 7kbps on a 4meg line downloading from both the IS news server and an international newserver... Extremely poor!!!!!!!

yea agreed. I am really disappointed.
I get 0.6kb/s on int news servers, and 5 kbs on well seeded int and local torrents, as i speak (so 2 am) no reason for the line to be shaped.
I quickly connect with my afrihost 3 gig account (Which I wisely kept for 1 more month) and the news server downloads jump to 400 kb/s.

Its shocking that this service is allowed. Is this seriously how it is going to be for the rest of the month?

EDIT: yea on a 4 meg line

i'm not sure if it's the case, but this package seems like the standard is basic uncapped that axxess and openweb are also selling, very poor performance on everything except browsing (although that's not always great either)

4MB package that's connected to the exchange at 1.5MB.

Torrents are shaped to the point that its not even worth bothering. Nothing over 10KB/s ever. General stability seems better today - yesterday there were lots of DNS lookup failures and "connection reset" errors. If it hasn't improved by the 15th I'll be back down to a the Express+ (which I was on with Axxess, but it seems to be the After Hours Uncapped offering with Imagine) 384k account which in my mind offers a better experience than the 4MB uncapped.

There's a part of me that wants to download and delete Linux distributions for the entire month. That way I'll use up way more data than I usually would even with torrents being unshaped. It is going to be a long slow month.

Well as of 2pm this afternoon, torrents are around 40KB/s. That I can live with. Sure it isn't at 4MB speeds, but I never expected that. If I got 384k torrent speeds and 1MB browsing speeds I'd be happy. Hopefully it stays like this.

Yeah my browsing pretty crappy too.

Yea, sorry if I didn't make that clear in my other post. Browsing is fine, no problems, pages load quickly.
Just torrents and news servers are so absolutely slow, there is no point.
Now if I only wanted the internet to browse, I would not need an uncapped account, 3 gigs at R29/gig would do me fine (with the occasional topup at R14.50/gig)
So please IS come up with an answer? I can understand heavy shaping during office hours, but at night time I expect to get some decent speed on torrents and from news servers.

This is ridiculous, then what the hell is the issue? Now I am getting 41kbps on both local and international newservers, but still, not NEARLY what I paid R500 for! It definitely isnt line speed, when I switch to a MWEB account to test (not uncapped), my downloads fly at 400kb+. But now if howardb is getting 400kb+ on the same line and the same package, why are we all not??

Yea, I agree, there seems to be so much unknown **** going on.
I know its not my line because I can use my afrihost R29/gig account and my torrents and international news server downloads fly at 400kb/s

*edit* my news server speeds do seem to be better now this afternoon, (200 - 300kb/s) So things definately are not stable yet.
I just hope the situation improves as this month progresses.

This afternoon I was also getting above 200kbps, has dropped to the 140s now, better than 50, but still not what I would expect!

Most unimpressive

Yeah, I'm also having a very very unimpressive experience here as a new customer (4mb after hours uncapped). Tried out my new service for the first time: the connection worked for about 5 hours on Friday (yesterday) afternoon and disconnected. Nothing since!

During that time speeds were only good for http, the rest seems definitely shaped or strangled and a private p2p business connection through Wired server software could not connect at all!! Tried a fresh torrent - less than 10k so this does not look like what was promised at all.

No support answers to the phone since 18:30 last night. Tried a support 'ticket' now, we'll see if that does anything.

Switching back to my current service (not cancelled yet) puts all back to normal with speeds over 400k, Wired server connects perfectly, and torrents running 300-400k.

A most unhappy puppy
