Hi there

I need some urgent help please.

I had an Imate Jasjar for the past 9 months, with a USIM 3G sim card, and sold the Jasjar recently.

I then bought an Imate JASJAM 3G phone, and the phone is HSDPA enabled too.

When I go to Start/Settings/Phone/Band and under "select your network type" select AUTO, and under "select your GSM/UMTS band" select AUTO, then the 3G "U" symbol comes up on the phone. When I then try and make a phone call, it loses the signal and starts searching, or gives an error message saying unable to make the call. Also, when BOTH AUTO selected, I cannot connect to the internet at all.

When I then change the network type to "GSM", the phone connects to GPRS, and I can make calls etc, and get connected to the internet, but only via GPRS, and quite a slow connection.

This morning, I removed my 3G simcard, and inserted my secondary sim (my car's phone sim) which is a 32K sim (C WIB 2.3), and set both the "network" and "band" settings to AUTO. Then it picks up the 3G "U" signal, and I can make phone calls and get connected to the internet, and it continues to show the "U" symbol, BUT, I'm 100% sure it does not connect at HSDPA speeds, NOR at normal 3G speeds, as when I do a speed test, I get between 3-8kbps download speed, and NO faster.

I checked with MTNSP, and HSCSD is loaded on my profile!!

I spoke to Leaf Wireless Support, and Londi (the guy I spoke to) said they're experiencing the same issue with their IMate Jasjam's....and he doesn't know how to fix it yet.

Does anyone know of a solution to this? I live in a HSDPA area, and checked on MTN's website on a street level to make sure I'm inside the HSDPA coverage area.

This is such a nice phone, but I can't get 3G at all!!!

Any help with this will be much appreciated.

Thanks a million.

Cheers

Robbie

The Jasjam, from a size point of view, is much nicer than the Jasjar....But, from a functionality point of view, is not that great!!! No MMS at this point ( you have to install it from a .cab file), No SKYPE pre-installed, and the phone will NOT log onto the 3G network, no matter what!!! Even the techies at Leaf Wireless (the distributor) have this issue, and do not have a resolve as yet.

So, if you have to ask, and I have to answer honestly, I'm NOT at all impressed. At the moment, it just another normal phone with Windows functionality......

That's just my 2c worth.

Jasjam hassles

Snakepit

I have not received your PM.....weird!!!

Please re-send.

Good day,

We are currently experiencing compatibility issues with the USIMS and some I-Mate / HTC products that is why its not been approved. [JasJam]
Leaf is aware of the issues and Brett is trying to get it resolved with the engineers unfortunately no time frames was given.

Thanks MTNDD

In addition to the above, the cause of incompatibility is the absence of EF_ECC files in USIMs, PRISM is developing the USIM with
EF_ECC file at the moment and we are hoping to test these SIM soon.

The ECC File mainly does error check on the sim among other things and it seems to affect 3G/HSDPA devices.

thanks

You're a star!!!

Would it mean I would have to get a new USIM once they become available at some stage?

How would we as MTN customers know when these new sims would be available?

Thanks once again for helping out.

Robbie

Good day,

I'll have to get back to you on this one will advise ASAP

Thanks MTNDD

As you are aware that we have not yet approved JasJAM on the MTN network merely for this reason. We are trying to approve it in tandem with the compatible USIM.

The only way you would know when the sim is available is when the phone is in the shops. It would mean either the SIM has been fixed or the phone itself has been modified, but the later is more unlikely.

Yo

The Guy

As far as I'm aware this is or was sorted out as apparently the JASJAM and TYTN is available with MTNSP if I read Piesang mentioned he got the pricelist with these to phones on a price plan

I've emailed Richard Ngoma his works in Midrand Product Procurement and I'll advise on what was done to resolve the above issues
