#ImLeaving

While I am a member of the "#I'mstaying group" I would never seek to disparage those that wish to leave. There are plenty of valid reasons why this country might not be right for someone anymore and if my personal circumstances where different I might even have gone the same way...

What sucks is when people question/ridicule the decisions of others to leave or stay... Take heart that there are like-minded people on both sides of the debate that you can share experiences with, is it really necessary to belittle the decisions and concerns of others...?

Yes that group is every bit as cultist as the #ImStaying group.

Just remember there are genuinely people who feel torn about leaving but feel they have no choice.

Yeah I get that but is there a reason to open a fb group to tell people you are leaving?

Exactly!

And the other, group is more than just telling people you're staying. That group is trying to make a difference to people's every day lives. It's bigger than just people staying. its people wanting to help where they can, even in the smallest way possible.

Thanks SlinkyMike, so passionate and empathetic, as always. However, it's not giving up, it's looking to the future.

To be honest bud, had your ancestors not chosen to emigrate you'd probably be sitting at your home in Bradford, on the dole, right now.

Show me a single leaver thread where it's all positivity about a grand new adventure and I'll eat my hat. You all just want others to validate your piffle, please don't pretend to be exuberantly emigrating to greener pastures when in many ways you are actually just expressing spite toward SA and then act surprised when okes won't allow it?. Be honest with yourself if no one else.

Not sure what the rest of your babble about life in Bradford on the dole is all about?

I must say you have it all figured out, don't you? Except I know it's not greener, I'm most definitely leaving for selfish reasons. I have no spite toward SA, I'm actually sad to be leaving, sad that I've been put in this most difficult situation. Hopefully this country comes right one day and I can come back, until then I have to make the hard decisions about what's best for my family. Much like my coal miner ancestors did when they arrived on this dusty continent.

I rediscovered Facebook this year. Some epic closed groups for work-related discussions. I couldn't care much less about the regular part of Facebook - closed groups are where it's at. I use it a lot every day and it's become an invaluable resource.

This is it exactly. It is like travel, people want to live blog it because they think it makes them sound urbane and sophisticated. And they want validation that they are doing the right-thing®. "Look at me, another country will have me! I am so special! Please tell me that I am important and that you will miss me!".

Just do it, one doesn't need to explain one's reasons or apologise. People have been changing countries for millenia.
