#ImLeaving

so go then? i think people leaving get more joy out of telling everyone their drama than just going. For every 10 people saying they are going about 3 go.
Then the bummer; 80+ % of those who left end up coming back within 3 yrs

I will extend an olive branch then; it's more true than it is false
Anecdotally it's inverted. Additionally as the DHA has no actual stats on emigrants it's highly unlikely they have stats on those who have returned.

I challenge anyone to post a link that backs up these claims*

*nothing from Homecoming Revolution please

While I am a member of the "#I'mstaying group" I would never seek to disparage those that wish to leave. There are plenty of valid reasons why this country might not be right for someone anymore and if my personal circumstances where different I might even have gone the same way...

What sucks is when people question/ridicule the decisions of others to leave or stay... Take heart that there are like-minded people on both sides of the debate that you can share experiences with, is it really necessary to belittle the decisions and concerns of others...?

All the butt hurt from people who realise that nobody really cares if they are staying or going!

Were you expecting people to beg you to stay? To be enthralled by your reasons for going? To be given validation at least? To have generic job that can't keep you afloat be called "rare skillz".

What a blow to the ego when they get nothing! Oh no!

Some of the commentators on the mybb articles have been "leaving soon" for literally 5 years. It takes a couple of months tops. It is boring. Just do it already. The most pathetic validation seeker is the guy going to panama. So needy and desperate for someone to come hold his hand and tell him he is doing the right thing. He will make an article on the latest huawei about his move. The guy who has been speaking about Belgium for the last few years is a close second.

You know you aren't valued. Why bother to make the threats? Millions of people do it around the world without having to seek constant validation.

I think in some cases it is as if they are trying to justify it when they are actually leaving, which i am more inclined to understand, again my bigger issue is with those just complaining.

Agreed. Leaving a beautiful place like SA with such a specific identity, and highg quality of life, etc. is going to be tough. I wouldn't take that away from anyone.

I think that the weight of staying also bears consideration though.

If you are white you are signing up for indefinite years of AA/EE. White owned businesses are currently going through serious transformation as you now have to be 51% black african owned in order to trade at scale. Spots in university are harder to obtain for while applicants. That has a weight, leavers in this thread might call it "a bunch of tosh" but there are people who understand and accept this as the cost of rebuilding our nation.

Having a bunch of naggy nancies melting down over every burglary reported on News24 is an unnecessary ballache to have to contend with while we get on with the business of building a truly inclusive SA. Work that comes at great personal cost for many people. So that's why I say: vent on your own, you are making life harder for others, you are not entitled to a public platform for your emotions, harden up, because much like Africa in general - immigration is not for sissies.

It is like parents who say to their kids that they are "counting to three". Then one day the kid stops being scared and the parent is like "don't make me say it! I will get to three! Just watch! 2.5! 2.75! 2.99!" and the kid keeps watching because he knows it is empty.

Are they expecting people to say "NO! Stop! PLZ! We will put the lights back on! ANYTHING!"? Do you think Cyril is going to meet you at the airport and beg you not to?

The usual story is that the person who is leaving 'employs 30 people' who will be out of a job next month (what is with the "30" number?). Sure bud! Then you read his post history where is is an underemployed cubicle rat.

You say you aren't valued. Why bother to make the threats? It is not difficult to do it. Professionals do it quickly and quietly. It really isn't difficult.

All you #imstaying'ers are going to have a hard time today.

nope, was working at home while my pool was running, fridges on, pc, alarm etc etc.. oh and yes it was loadshedding, almost forgot.
