Immigrating to the UK

really easy, but use Wise, it's quicker and cheaper
It might be quicker, but cheaper it is not...

Starling charges £9.50, where as Wise charges £9.92 - £14.62 (depending on the chosen method of transfer)

Starling needs a UK phone number; which we don't have at the moment.

Yeah I found their sign-up to be very strict.
I couldn't even install the app without changing my Google Play Store region to UK (I was part of a Family Link group which added more complexity).

I was talking overall. The exchange rate I have got with wise in the past has always been almost exactly what the current rate has been.

Starling use the live Mastercard exchange rate for their transfers.

Pretty much exactly what I plan on doing.

We already have access to a full UK account that we use and save money in each month. Wife never closed it when she moved to SA 7 years ago.

How difficult is it sending money to SA from a UK account? (She's with Halifax)
I use Wise

fk. Need to renew my SA passport. Appointment for that booked 30 August, it's a trip up to London...
For this I need my UK birth certificate. Stupid South African rules - why the **** do I need to provide that? (it's to prove how I got dual citizenship - but as per above post **** them it's irrelevant). I also need my marriage certificate, divorce decree etc... Why? Nothing's changed since I last renewed my passport. Bloody banana republic bullshit.

Can I find my UK birth certificate anywhere? Of course not.

So, let's see how quick the GRO is ....
New certificate just arrived through the front door...

I just placed an order for mine. I have the original that was hand-written back at the consulate when I was born, but would like a newer modern version.
I had the original as well, but I can't find it.
The one I got is a new piece of paper with scans of the relevant section printed on it :D

Question for the Londoners. Train workers strike on the 2nd but I have planned a trip for the day. Underground is still active and I want to drive in.
Is it possible to park anywhere north of London that has relatively close parking to the underground? Outside ULEZ although I don’t really have a problem paying the fee.

Struggling to figure it out using the TFLgo app because it includes stations that make use of trains that will not be in operation. I.e Luton park station.

Metropolitan line runs all the way out to Chesham - well outside the M25 - if that's working it might be a decent option to investigate?

Thank you, that’ll work. St Albans station also seems to be an option not far off the M1.

How is the job market in the UK at the moment in the IT field? I'm applying for spouse visa (savings route) next year, but due to circumstances I am the sole income earner for the household, and wife will only be able to apply for disability once she is in the UK. I will most likely only be able to secure employment after I'm there as at the moment it appears sponsorship is almost impossible to secure without ridiculous degrees and whatnot.
