Immigrating to the UK

Went to my local saffa shop over the weekend to buy some biltong for the Boks game. People were queuing outside the shop, even heard Kurt Darren's Kaptein while waiting!

Only thing missing was a car watch in the parking lot.

Just got a new quote from a pet relocation company that someone we know used to move their pets to the UK.

116k for all 6 animals. (4 dogs 2 cats)
That's a big saving from the original 250k quote we got from Global Paws.

No idea if we're going to be able to actually find a rental that will allow us to have them. We will cross that bridge when we get to it though.

Who are you using if I may ask? We have 3 (2 cats and a dog) coming over next year and still need to get some quotes going.

With regards to a rental, what you can try is wooing the landlord with money and being open to paying X amount extra on the deposit per animal. That's basically what I had to do anyway (£200 per pet).

for those of you who live in the UK, what does it mean when British people say
Early Doors?
I was watching a YT channel and they said it

Looks like we'll use this company. https://jetpets.co.za/ - part of SA Relocations group. Super quick communication (Unlike PetWings) and their quote is 90k cheaper than PetWings.

Also, having a friend who used them with her two dogs and a cat - they had zero issues. Door to door service.

That's a good idea, thanks. 200 per pet isn't horrible for the deposit. Might even go as far to say I'll pay X amount extra per month on the rental, too. But I have to get past the agent first I guess - though a mate in the UK said I could try private landlords. Will have to look into that more.

On the subject of British phrases. Learnt a new one the other day.

You bell end

Bell end is very common. Surprised you hadn’t heard of it earlier.

There are a few, like, Pillock, muppet, slag, minger, prat.

Growing up in the UK for a bit and going to school there; I’ve heard them all.

minger has always made me laugh, no idea why
I heard mean mugging in a conversation the other day, wasnt expecting it to be used

Bought a bunch of gemsquash from ASDA (first time seeing them) and it's the real deal ...... have missed these babies!

@Priapus - have faith mate, you will come right with a pet friendly landlord, they do exist ;)

Bit more pricy than Asda but thats the organic scam, lol. Handy to know though. I love these things

Spot of weather on the way, chaps!

Hi guys

I am emigrating to London in December. Unfortunately, I am on the green mamba and will be going over a spousal visa.

I have tried, unsuccessfully, to open accounts with Monzo and HSBC from South Africa. I realize that it will be much easier to open an account once I am there and have collected my BRP.

For those that have made the move recently, what have you done so that you have access to funds when you first arrive in the UK? I bank with FNB and Capitec locally (if it’s relevant).

Thanks
