Personally I wouldn't stay in reading but there are lots of quieter villages and towns nearby. So got a job offer to work in Slough. But will most likely reside in Reading from what I have read. How is that place for a family? Anyone here staying close by?

Yeah, rolling a balance is not a good idea.UK credit cards are great...
There are plenty of lenders who will accept SA address history, just shop around.
I am still 3 weeks away from having 3 years UK address history. I have a mortgage and my credit card limit is over 50k.
I've had an aqua card, capital one, some other credit builder I can't remember, and more lately tesco and my last card was an HSBC elite with a lunatic limit.
You probably have a "thin file" - because of insufficient verified ID. Things will improve once you're shown as on the voter's roll. The only places I got any kind of credit was klarna and O2 for my account.
My credit history is very good from South Africa, I earn well enough here, on pre-approvals everything says highly likely etc, but then it is denied.
I even get recommendations from Lloyds to get a credit card to improve my credit score, but they then reject it.
Only thing I dont have is the voters registration, it is done but fighting with TransUnion to update it.
No idea what I did wrong, I have a UK passport, over a year staying here, permanent employment etc
I’ve been considering paying loqbox from ZA (using a friends UK address + the fact I have a UK passport). You probably have a "thin file" - because of insufficient verified ID. Things will improve once you're shown as on the voter's roll.
Get a loqbox account as well!
SA credit history is irrelevant.

Would this be sufficient to build up credit from this end? (Also have Monzo and Wise accounts).
