Pretty much most of UK is a lot safer than all of SA.
Yep. And Saffers’ ingrained “survival mode” is extra handy in areas where it’s not.

I used to walk back from gym all the time in SA. Many people did. Never had any issuesNot something you’d hear a local saying here.. that would be asking for trouble.
I could probably sleep with my window open, but its the street facing ground floor window and directly in front of the window is my desk, so I am rather nervous about sleeping with the window open.Yep. And Saffers’ ingrained “survival mode” is extra handy in areas where it’s not.

I’ve accidentally left my office window open. Back doors(unlocked) too. It’s less likely to happen but does. My two South African colleagues have both had their bicycles stollen here.Yeah, I would not have the window open. That's just asking for trouble. Someone will try grab whatever is on the desk.
Thats the key... if you act like you are in SA and don't live with your head in the clouds then you will be very safe.Yeah there will always be opportunistic crime. Don't be stupid and you should be fine.

I just like the fact that my fiancee can walk into town by herself and the worst thing that happened to her was two guys cat called her. In SA if cat calling was the worst that would happen I wouldn't be mad.
Yup, apparently tube station exits are a favourite, as people mill around opening Google Maps etc to see where they should be headed.A lot of it is still common sense. Watched an interview this morning with the leader of a phone snatching gang. He was asked how people can keep their devices safe, and the answer was quite simple: “keep your phone out of sight”. Said that if you had £1300 cash in your pocket, you’d scan around first and make sure you were safe before taking it out. But think nothing of leaving a phone worth £1300 just lying on a table in a coffee shop.
He said they specifically look for people lost in conversation or on social media walking along pavements where they snatch them on mopeds, mainly because the devices are still unlocked so they can get into banking apps, etc.
Not sure how that works. Even if my phone is unlocked all of my banking apps are still locked. They'd need to snatch it while I was actually in the app.He said they specifically look for people lost in conversation or on social media walking along pavements where they snatch them on mopeds, mainly because the devices are still unlocked so they can get into banking apps, etc.

Hmmmm. I have a bike licence!Mine all unlock with FaceID only. Apparently they shoulder surf for that reason. Bragged about how he got £50k from just one phone. Also, he pays his riders something like £2.5K per DAY.
FNB, Barclays, and Wise all require either a password/pin or face to actually use the app even if the phone is unlocked.Mine all unlock with FaceID only. I need to find a new roadside assistance for my mother.

Quite possibly. I don’t have them all.So do all the rest of UK banking apps.

But all useless if you’re already in the app and your phone gets snatched, I guess.
