Immigrating to the UK

I got my acceptance letter on the 10th of May and it was stated that I should expect to receive a Citizenship Ceremony invitation from the Embassy within the next 12 weeks, and if I didn't that I should email Citizenship support at the UK Home Office. I did so last week, and have not received any reply. I sent another email yesterday in case the first didn't go through.

Immigration lawyers said that they seem to be slow with the citizenship ceremony invitations, they have other clients in the same position and because there is no phone number to call the only thing to do is wait for the invitation. There's no other way of following up and I'm worried that I'm going to miss a deadline or the application will reach some kind of expiry through no fault of my own.

I'm stressing out a bit. Anyone got any advice, or anyone else going through the same thing?

As much as that sucks, try not stress about anything expiring or deadlines, etc because at this point, you've basically got it already, the ceremony has no final bearing I was told.

Hope it comes through soon though, for peace of mind at least

No way to describe how I feel right now, keep wanting to climb in under my table and just sit there for 2 years in the dark.
Really feel for you and your family. That’s a tough one to work with.

Okay, thankfully I got a response today that confirmed the citizenship certificate was dispatched and might take until 15 September to reach the embassy.

As long as there isn't an issue of deadlines or anything, it's all good.

Application for our second leg of visas goes in today. Along with payment, yay.

Finally got a booking for passport renewals too. In November, then just a year of waiting for the actually passport. 😂

Took 4-5 months for ours.

Specifically the reason I renewed mine before I left. Now valid for 10 years - so will cover all future visas. My son’s SA one will need to be renewed at some point. I’ll have to get his British one just before his SA one expires. That way I don’t need to get a new Certificate of Entitlement for him. 9k the last time for that.

working my way toward acceptance.

Any of you guys already in the UK would be great if you contacted your MP's about MAC and the Petition that needs to still be discussed...

Not sure I am fully understanding your particular situation. What rules recently changed?

Pretty sure the rules did not change, they just change for us as our situation changed.

See if I can in a nutshell this.

If spouse is employed she requires a total of £29000 or more earnings per year Gross but the last 6 months bank statements are enough to prove the £29000 earnings.
If spouse is self employed she has to earn a total of £29000 Net in the financial year that I use to apply. She has only been working for around a month now. She will be a tiny bit short of that after tax (but several thousand over that if it was Gross).
Self employed means have to use her tax result after financial year. So April 2026 is the first time she will have worked a financial year with a Net income above £29000.

I have looked at this in multiple different ways, unless my wife finds a job where she is not self employed and that earns her above the threshold (she is looking but also full time employed 6 days a week now), one of us wins the lotto or either the MAC or Threshold petition go somewhere positive I am stuck in SA till 2026.

Reunite Families UK are trying to do something about it.

When there is a new petitions committee this will be debated:

Finally the Migrations Advisory Committee will be reviewing the spousal visa.

Anyway TLDR: Rules are messed up and not straight forward. Speaking to your local MP about this will help add to awareness and debate.

Congrats. But you do know if Russia does send nukes. Great Britain will be the main spot to hit. Because with Britain out of the way, Europe would collapse easily.

Isle of Man is also easy I believe. Lot of banking jobs there via SA banks.

Do you know how mutually assured destruction works?

Do you ever stop to think before dropping your thoughts in a thread?
