Immigrating to the UK

Hi Guys,

Has anyone here had to apply for the EEA family permit. Allows a non EU/UK person to live and work in the UK/EU with their spouse.

We are busy with this but some of the requirements are to have paid for flight bookings and hotel/accomodation reservations. I'm a bit wary to do this not knowing the timelines this will take.
Are you referring to the ss route? Where you planning on going?

Anyone know what will/might happen post Brexit and UK nationals moving to Republic of Ireland with their non EU partners.

Everything I read indicates that free movement between UK and Republic of Ireland will remain after Brexit(with/without a deal) for UK and Irish citizens as the UK will remain in the CTA. There is however nothing mentioned about non UK partners of UK citizens.

Pretty sure that not even the government knows what will happen atm.

Once the UK leaves the EU, those free movement rules shouldn't apply anymore so it could possibly fall away

Uk and Ireland signed a new agreement in May regarding the continuation of the CTA. Free movement for Irish and UK nationals were in place through the CTA since 1922 before either country joined the EU and both countries agreed that it will remain in place even after Brexit, deal or no deal.

Your spouse can use any type of free visa to enter the UK with you. A spouse of an EU national must get priority over all other applicants.
No need for hotel bookings if your intention is to immigrate. Once you are both there then start the pre settled status application. It is so simple via the play store app.
I earlier incorrectly stated that you must get proof of residence but this is not asked for as my wife now reminded me. Wait for 6 weeks before applying.
My non EU wife received her UK biological residency card before my application was even accepted.

Just got the first round of bills ......

electric 29gbp
water 32gbp
gas 13gbp
broadband 33gbp

Was panicking about the water and power usage, seems it was unnecessary

If you want to save some money on stuff like that, www.moneysavingexpert.com is just the site for you. Obviously takes some effort on your part to find the right deals, but it is wildly popular in the UK.

It pays to have a look around when your contracts are coming up for renewal. Have a look at gocompare.com
Armed with that phone up your current supplier and tell them you are moving if they can't match the price. More than often they will match.

If not then just move as its easy enough. Last week I saved around £200 a year bargaining with BT.
Been doing that for years with mobile, broadband, gas/elect.

Well I went with Virgin because of a referral which got me 50 off the first bill. Switched to Bulb with another referral and got 75 credit, lol. My buddy already filled me in about the matching thing .... isn't competition grand.

@Chris_the_Brit - It won't be such a huge thing from next month because salaries will be coming in. It was just a bit of penny pinching because of X amount of rands which didn't equal much pounds :) But link bookmarked anyway, thanks.

One of the best things about the 1st World: competition. Everyone here is fighting each other to get your precious £.

Has anyone sent money from an FNB account to Monzo ? How did you do it ?

Just did a swift payment to my FNB global account to Monzo account.

Fnb cheque > Fnb GBP Global account > Monzo

All done and cleared within a few minutes.

I fund my GBP Global account as I have funds and then just do one swift payment from there to my Monzo account.

Virgin (if you can get it in your area) - cable internet is awesome. Found it very reliable. Most others are FTTC now, and all run on the BT backbone.
Can you use your own router/modem? Some ISPs allow it in SA, there merely give you the login credentials and you are all set.

So we are looking at all set be leaving last weekend of November. Went to Sandton last Friday to apply for wife's spousal visa, and we are looking to get it by end of the month. Then we will buy the plane tickets and sort out the dogs travel arrangements.

Seven Seas collect stuff that is being shipped over about 1 1/2 weeks ago, so that should be on its way soon.

Also, finishing work end of October, gonna have a month of holiday on the African sun ie: the Vale
