Immigrating to the UK

Any plans about where you intend to end up?

Not 100% sure right at this moment, I don't want to be in London, I think we'll land in Manchester and go somewhere near the north of England.

You'll definitely have an easier time of it if you're thinking north. I started here and still haven't thought of leaving almost 4 years later. If you need any kind of help, just shout, there's a few of us up here

@gregmcc is near Manchester iirc, so might have some input, I'm pretty sure there was another recent arrival who was in the Manchester area.

But as Mephisto says, decent property is more plentiful and cheaper in the north.

Ok, finally got my Visas and everything lined up. Leaving for the UK in about a month. I hope we manage to find a place to stay quickly, but the sounds of it - it can be pretty tough
Congratulations. It’ll all be fine, a bit of struggle is part of the process and you won’t even hate rental agents after a few months. :)

I'm in Manchester. It's a good city for the most part and it's growing rapidly. 2 hours from London Euston by train, which isn't bad either.

Feel free to ping me. I'm NW of Manchester. Great area - nice and green up here. You couldn't pay me enough to work down south in London.

What the area called? Is it closer or further to manchester?
