Immigrating to the UK

Flight was smooth. Even with a 13 month old who slept all the way.

Just for Lyca sims. 100gb / unlimited calls and texts for £30. Can’t argue with that.

Who did you fly with? Any recommendations? I see Emirates is pretty cheap but someone told me I should try Qatar as they're generally better.

Welcome. You will be greeted with a thunderstorm this weekend.

How were the queues at the airport?

Depends what route you want to go I guess. Qatar only does via Doha, which is like 17hrs if memory serves (used them twice). Swiss Air and Lufthansa are also cheap for indirect flights. Emirates is probably the best out of the lot, and direct, but changing over on any of them is a PITA. Absolute cheapest is Ethiopian, but that’s a hard nope from me.

For direct I’ve only flown SAA which obviously cost more than the indirect, but knowing I’m landing in my destination in 11-12hrs instead of 17+ is worth it.

IIRC Priapus flew BA.

I flew direct with Virgin. No complaints. I'll never fly Qatar to the UK, or anywhere else, ever again.

lol - SAA doesn't even operate that route anymore.

Pro tip: if you’re searching for flights online use incognito. Your previous searches are stored in your cookies, and they slightly increase the prices with every new search.

Been a really long time since I’ve used them, obviously.

And yeah, was quite happy with Virgin. And why don’t you like Qatar? Flights were decent. Just hated the lay over in Doha.

My credit card was cloned a month or so before my flight and they refused to accept my replacement card when we checked in. By the time they admitted they were in the wrong and finally did we had missed the flight and had to take a room at a hotel. Cost us thousands of rands and 24 hours of our already too brief holiday. They refused to reimburse us for any of it.

Oh damn, fair enough!

Whatsup with Doha if you don't mind me asking? I basically have to chose between layover at Doha, Dubai or Frankfurt.
Our layover was long and uncomfortable. The airport is also ridiculously expensive iirc. We paid a small fortune for a plate of chips and some cooldrinks.

The monorail was cool but that’s about it.

BA direct to Heathrow. Zero issues and a smooth flight. Seats could have been a bit wider mind you.

Queues were long. Fortunately my wife is British so we stood in the manual British line that went very quickly. Was there for ten mins or so.

Yea BA. SAA used to fly that route. Not any more.

Flew with KLM last year, no complaints and a relatively short hop to AMS

On the SA bound flight had the whole row to myself at the back of the plane

Looking forward to sub 50ms battle net latency?

I kid you not, I think I'll re-sub to WoW just so I can experience it for once in my life. I've been dreaming of that latency for ±15 years!

So it’s only been a few days we’ve been out here on holiday.

I can see it now more than ever; having our son around his family is everything. You don’t realize it until you have that experience with them and the kids.

We’re convinced of our decision now.
