Immigrating to the UK

Don’t remember who said it, but there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes.

The Dutch wrt them bicycling to work in the ****ing snow. Or at least that is what they say as well.

Brace yourself for ze German paperwork. Somebody I know there last year was asked to fax a document over to municipality. Yes... fax.

One of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, Japan, still makes regular use of faxes. :P

They also pay girls to not touch them and sleep with robots.

Not saying their way of living is wrong, but it's not for everybody.

Looks like spouse visa takes six months to process. Is this the time frame for those of you who went that route?
Mine took 6 weeks from biometrics stage. They had said 3 months.

But that was in May before peak season

Ah thanks good to know.

Is it worth going through an immigration lawyer or not? 80k is a lot of money to waste if I mess up the application some how.

I did my first one DIY and while nerve wracking it wasn't actually difficult. My two subsequent employer-sponsored visas were done by lawyers paid for by the employer.
Would I personally pay for a lawyer for this? Nah.

Just got the quote for the animals.

R250k - door to door shipping. Using global paws. Also indirect flight.

There must be a cheaper way…

Agreed, did my partners visa and it was fairly straightforward.
Trying to get her daughter across has been a different animal

If we can’t find cheaper; we will have to just go with Global Paws. It’s non negotiable that animals come with us. If we want to leave RSA (we really do) then just need to suck it up.

Fortunately the sale of the one car will cover the 250k - and the one dog that belongs to my brother is paid for as my brother sent us a large sum of money for.

But if we can get it done cheaper then of course that’s better.
