Immigrating to the UK

Not so much up here, it's drizzled on and off today but not been cold, the humidity is still a killer, met office shows it as still being 91% now.

Summer? Has been raining last 35 of out 39 days here in northwest Germany.

Ever notice the correlation between countries with good food and heatwaves?

Netherlands, Germany, Nordics, The Great Barrier Island™ -

Spain, France, Italy, Mediterranean...

I'm considering a possible job offer in Bath but its difficult to gauge the relative purchasing power and cost of living. I know this depends on a range of factors but I'm curious for those in Bath or similar places what a typical month/year of expenses may come to?

Bath is a pretty damn nice place to be, really love that part of the country although it is way out if you want to see the country. Rentals look pricey to me but I’m in a low rent neighbourhood in east midlands.

Happy to share general cost of living stuff but being a family of 4 not sure how helpful it will be.

Thanks, any comparison will be useful as I often find these cost of living websites to be way off.

We're currently a family of 3 tough hoping to become 4 in the next year or so.

So, it looks like the visa fee increases will be substantial. The IHS charge going up to 1000 GBP per year the visa is valid and the actual visa will increase as well - probably close to 2000 GBP - up from 1500 at the moment.

Looks like the increase will either be in October or April.

If it’s April; we are thinking of applying for the Spouse visa at the end of March then - if it’s October, we will just have to find the money somewhere, as that is far too early to apply for us, unfortunately.

If we apply for it in April; I think it might take two to three months - so might have it around Jun or so?
Once we have it, I assume we need to get into the UK as soon as possible to collect the BRP, right?

Can my wife collect it for me instead? As we might still be wrapping things up in SA by then.

Brp you have to collect in person
Your entry vignette will be valid for something like 30 days from issue and you should pick up your brp within 10 days of arriving.

As for those increases... **** me, and **** the tories. Double taxation ftl. I hope its april, we renew in jan

Ah right, so a month to book flights and get into the UK to collect. But once I have collected, if I needed to come back to SA - that wouldn’t be an issue right?

I might have to come back for a couple months.

Here are the fees for people outside of the UK

Yeah that's fine. Once you have your brp in your possession you can come and go freely

I only ask because I read somewhere that I should not be out of the country for extended periods of time - which would be problematic for the next visa renewal? Or - is that only for the ILR application I wonder?

Not for a spouse visa. For any renewal and the ILR you basically need to prove you live together permanently and intend to do so. Trips out of the country are not an issue.

Only an issue if you do things like spend 180 days in total out of the country when trying to apply for your ILR.

Oh right. Yeah would not be spending that much time out of the country.

The wife will need to start job hunting in the new year. December isn’t a great time to do that. So we thinking Jan. Hoping she would find something by March. But that might be unrealistic?

She works in the insurance industry with experience in the UK and SA. So maybe it wouldn’t be too difficult?

Fortunately she’s a British citizen. So no need to bother with sponsorships and such.

What job sites do people use these days for UK market besides LinkedIn ?
