Immigrating to the UK

People seem to think that it rains all the time in the UK.
Truth is that it rains most days, but usually for not long enough.
I love the rain, I love the cold. I complain when its hot.
I keep telling all the Brits how good everything is here, but Brits do love to complain.
But even when there is strike action its well communicated ahead of time, and its limited in its impact.
The rain isn't the problem for me. It's the dark in winter...

A friend told me to try the Toffee Yum Yums... those things are pure evil. And they are so cheap too!
Been meaning to try those for a while now. They do look good.

Takes a bit of getting used to but to be honest it's over pretty quickly. Only 2 and a half months before the days start getting longer again.

A quick search of an immigration lawyer's site shows this:

UK spouse visa required documents checklist

You will need to provide several documents with your visa application, these may include:

  • Completed application form and application fee
  • Valid passport
  • Previous passports
  • Evidence of your genuine and subsisting relationship (e.g. shared bills, photographs, correspondence, messages).
  • Proof you meet the English language requirements (e.g. CEFR exam certificate).
  • Two passport-sized colour photos that are in line with the requirements set by the UK.
  • Proof you meet the financial requirements (e.g. bank statements, savings statement, wage slips)
  • Details of any previous immigration applications, if any
  • Details of any criminal convictions
  • Your national insurance number (if you have one)
  • Proof of accommodation in the UK
  • Biometric information (fingerprints and a digital photograph).
  • Tuberculosis test results if from a country where you have to take the test

Got to love immigration "experts"

UK website is very specific on Photos, texts, etc

Things like greetings cards, travel tickets, receipts, photographs and text or social media messages are not considered strong evidence of your relationship and are unlikely to help your application.

It also goes on to suggest that if we are married - don't need to prove we have lived together for 2 years. But will add all that we can think of to the application.

Maybe they ascribe to the "throw everything including the kitchen sink" at every application, but they are well known specialist immigration lawyers.

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate Lidl's Jam Donuts?!

I just went to lidl to get a torch, silly me they only have the torches from Sunday. I'm not much of a donut fan, but the rest of the family is hooked on the brownies. It's a hard requirement to always buy brownies if I've visited lidl. So today I return with brownies and no torch...

I also see they are going to be selling fireworks soon too. I'm a little worried about my pets. I'd like to goto a bonfire event, but if there is risk of fireworks throughout the night, I'll probably have to stay home to comfort the pets.

That's my plan as well. I don't want a refusal on something minor that could have been included.

They'll ask for more if they need it.

Oh that’s good to know.

It’s we either have a job offer that pays more than 18k a year. Or savings to 62k. Or a combination of, right?

If we have no savings but wife warning more than 18k a year - I believe we ok?

She earns more than that now - so will submit 6 months of current employment payslips too.

No harm. Like the agent who helped us with our ancestral visas told us: the person dealing with your application doesn’t know you from a bar of soap, and literally only has what’s in front of them to make their decision with, so the more you give them, the more informed their decision will be.

Yes.
She'll need to prove ongoing/current employment over the threshold, as well as historical earning over the threshold as well. I used my letter of offer, UK payslips and past SA payslips.

Cool. She exceeds the threshold now on SA income. Fortunately we don’t need to pay extra for our son as he is a citizen. So not part of the application.

She’ll most likely double her income in the UK as there is far more opportunity there with higher salary.

Hoping I can get some guidance from those on here. Busy finishing the UK tourist visa application and need some help.

My wife and I are each filling in our own applications. One of the questions is will anyone be sponsoring part or your whole trip. The accommodation we have booked is in my name, and on her application we have filled in 'yes' and given details that I have paid for the accommodation. Is this the correct approach? Or should we rather say she is not being sponsored, as sponsorship may reference a UK citizen. Hoping someone can help please!

Edit: @Priapus maybe you can help here? I've seen you've applied for a fair few UK visitor visas :p

Also wondering what docs we need? We're both employed but neither of us keep much money in our current accounts. We thinking:
1. Employment letters
2. Past 3 months payslips
3. Past 3 months bank statements
4. Past 3 months saving account balances.
Do we also need proof of accommodation?

Having done this in August for my girlfriend.

On her application we put sponsored. Then you write a short letter saying she is your girlfriend and you will be paying for the accommodation for your trip. Sign and add your contact details to the letter. Attach to this copies of your bookings in your name. (As in merge pdf and upload as 1 file)

As for money, she gave a statement of her money market account for 3 months and a payslip. They were perfectly happy and she got her visa back in 2 weeks.

Proof of accommodation, and the flight itinerary are the most important documents they look for. They want to know where you stay and that you’re planning on leaving.

Have fun!

Not true. They’re very specific on the their site. They’re not interested in these documents and ask you not to include them.

In the 5 visitor visas I have had; I have never supplied them.
