Immigrating to the UK

Just realised that today marks 2 year since we landed in the UK for us. Still loving it. Still feel like an explorer and new comer but somehow very much at home now. Still thankful and grateful for the whole experience and what it has provided for my family.
Most of you would be shocked but short of transfer flights to “mainland” Europe at Heathrow , I had never even been to the UK before moving here. :)

Congrats! :)

The UK is a dump. The weather is dull and depressing for at least 9 months of the year. It is fantastic if you are in your 20's, the amount of people you meet and experiences are amazing. But the unfriendly people, cost of living and indoor lifestyle is not good. Having an English accent, education or work experience can take you far but if you think about your day to day living it is a 2/10.

Seems like a burner account but I’ll take the bait and offer a counter opinion.
I’ve never met more outdoor people in my life. Real outdoor people, not weather permitting outdoor people. High level of active old folk.
Work life balance is good. I work with great people and have to dial back the “joburg” in me quite regularly.
The country is brimming with beauty. And diverse people from all over the world.
Schooling and education is fantastic.
Service in general is great.
Access to products on this level is something I’ve never experienced before.
Random goodness, my DHL delivery dude dropped off a Xmas card. Not from his company, from him, cause he is another happy foreigner and we like to chat. Good people in abundance.

Car insurance is such a scam.
Premium going up 40% next month. Wtaf.
And yeah I've shopped around, they're all around that much.

I renewed a couple of months ago, it was about £10 cheaper than last year.

Have you searched using the Meerkats?

I have. Only one cheaper was marshmallow and then when I add the extras I have now it actually turned out more
The whole industry is colluding in taking the piss.

This wind...my bin was standing in the driveway in front of the side gate and it blew the bin straight through the gate and broke the hinge in the process...I see there was also a bit of a tornado in Manchester
Yep. Took out some roofs not super far from my house. I also know of someone on a farm where the horse stables are half gone. It was super windy.

You sound a bit bitter and twisted.

Hahahaha, 100% you're one of those can't leave SA types so tries to make his sad arse feel better by commenting on things he knows jack about. Either that or you're one of those failed saffers that only ever saw London, couldn't make it and had to slink off back to SA

I'm nearly 50 and still having those 'in your 20's' amazing experiences and amount of people I'm meeting
I get greeted by school kids and teens and millenials and everyone else daily and it's not a rare thing either
Cost of living, yeah mate just because things have gone up doesn't mean it's a UK thing .... I look at the prices in SA and cringe, lol. Affording much better here that's for sure.
Indoor lifestyle ..... I've never been more out and about as an adult than here. It's safe and easy to get around and there's beauty at every turn to be out in.
The weather - it's very overstated and is nowhere near what it was like a decade ago. Besides, I love the time it's miserable over the heat and humidity (of which there is plenty here for 4 or 5 months).

Sour grapes is not good for you but you do you boo :whistling:

Anyone deregistered as a SA tax resident lately?

Just finalised my last SARS audit, looking for some pro's and con's

I did it after I moved

No cons
Pros: no more SA tax liability. And it's necessary to get an RA out the country.

What UK sites are there that are similar to mybroadband forums?

I have seen digital spy but I'm wondering if there any others.
