Immigrating to the UK

It is a little blowy down here in tropical Portsmouth. A pleasant 15 degree temperature increase is well received.

Everyone’s freaking out about the “wind”.

*laughs in Capetonian*

Dunno hey...I lived in CT for 12 years and I've never experienced wind like this. A quick Google tells me storm Isha winds can reach up to 90mph!

90mph is actually category 1 hurricane strength.

Why people dont think ahead and when it storms or is super windy take their trash and put it somewhere thats not going to break open and mess the entire street up is beyond me.
Last nights winds wrecked havoc, the street was a total mess

Some thoughts after moving house at the end of December now that the dust has started to settle.

Firstly, the process of getting a rental is much easier now that we have rental and credit history.
Changed from EDF to Octopus for energy and overall the process was easy breezy.
Changing address with Anglian was also just an online process. Received all the bills and change over accounts without a hitch.
Moving council tax, same. Fill out the dates online, receive an account recon and balances due in the post.
Changing address on V5s was also an online process and while I don’t remember exactly how long it took I’m fairly sure the new V5s arrived in the same week.
For some reason could not get the online identity verification done for drivers licenses so had to go down to the post office to fill in a form and send off the drivers. New card arrived a little over a week later. UKVI and voter reg was just an online form. Overall just a low level bit of admin.
Scored a bit of savings on insurance as somehow our new neighbourhood is lower risk but that is due for renewal next month so let’s see if that continues to get lower as we build history.

Only real bit of pain was our fibre move. Talktalk use offshore call centres and it was impossible to co-ordinate the device delivery to my old address in preparation. Ended up cancelling, used a smarty unlimited data card for a week while we got a new provider. A little painful at the time but really the only negative experience.

Tldr; Service works(onshore), things get easier over time.

In addition, you can get royal mail to forward your post from the old address to the new one automatically, so anything that slipped through the cracks can get sorted.

Forgot to mention that. Got that sorted and while a few things slipped by initially(my fault I applied after we moved), it is working like a charm. Thankfully our old rental agent just drops us a mail to come collect the post from their offices.

For those who still send money back to SA every month, like I do, the exchange rate is looking rather good for this pay day coming. The ANC is helping our wallets.
Not to be nosy (well I am)

Why are you sending money back?

I do to keep my FNB account open while I wait for my inheritance to be paid out. Found out the hard way when they closed my bank account due to no funds moving in and out.

Whee another named storm tomorrow... But only warnings for you northern lot.
