Immigrating to the UK

Was there in February.

R70 for a box of cereal, R39 for 2 litre milk. R25 for a TopDeck. Prices are crazy.

On the other side, paid R140 for a 700g rib eye on the bone. That would be £30 here.

/cries

Under £20 at my local market village butcher.
Pay that all day though, their meat is top notch.

Yea I probably need to make a trip into town tomorrow to check out the market butcher here, I'm sure they'll have some more better prices.

Plan a holiday in April they said ..... it's coinciding lovely with seemingly all of europe transport striking :cautious:

Those prices seem excessive - except maybe the TopDeck, I don't eat those.
It was FutureLife Crunch, was at Checkers. I bought it anyway because we don't get it in the UK and I wanted some. Bargain for £3 LOL

Funny how it's the small things we miss the mist.

Oddly enough, wife and I have found the meat we preferred the most to be from Lidl. We get most of it from there now days.

Aldi for us. As South Africans we’ve been spoiled with good quality meat and game all our lives, the UK really is terrible when it comes to finding anything comparable.

Do a road trip!

Have a few nice, relaxed stops along the way and do some light sightseeing on the way to your destination? :D

Where are/were you planning to go?

We're doing Germany and Switzerland and we do have a car hire for most of it, it's just the trains and planes part of getting there that may be strike affected that I'm losing my mind over :D

It seems securing a rental is difficult if you’re not in the UK. A lot of agency’s or landlords want to meet in person.

A lot of places enforce right to rent by having you go to their office with your passport to prove you’re A) who you say you are, B) that you’re actually allowed in the country on a long term basis, and C) that you’re actually IN the country.

Remember, there are literally queues of people who are physically already on the island standing outside newly available properties desperate to rent to rent them. They’re always going to have priority over someone who isn’t here.

I think in the price range we are looking at there aren’t queues of people wanting to rent £2500 properties. So we at least have that going for us.

We did have one or two who would let our friend view for us.

It's probably easier to buy a house with that kind of budget than to find a rental

If you have a credit history in the country; sure.

We plan to buy as soon as my credit history is good.
