Immigrating to the UK

Jirre. I got mine last year through an agency, took 2 weeks from payment until it was in my hands, cost a small fortune though. Apparently unabridged ones aren't done anymore.
Unabridged still done - my request. But as my employer is funding the visa, they cover costs but they will not pay for these third party companies, which they say are obviously bypassing the official process i.e bribery/facilitation fees. Guess they have high ethics.

Rather pay from your own pocket then.

I would not trust the normal system. But up to you.

Apologies, had a look and I got confused, they told me it no longer says unbridged on the certificate as of 2018, but is still a unabridged certificate.

Been using 3rd parties for ages, worth it imo. Got all the documents like vault birth certificates etc through various ones for my British Passport application. Home affairs are a soul destroying nightmare.

Home Affairs is so useless that their online passport portal is now not able to do what it's meant to do!!

Unfortunately, I don't wanna pay 23-28k for these services myself. Need to do it the hard way.

I also need my documents apostilled and these guys seem to charge 550-850 per page -which is free at Dirco which is the only agency that does it for South Africa and hence the foreign employer saying no!

Just in case , it's important - It's not for UK but another European country. Me already having British citizenship means didly squat in this application. I hate Brexit cos without it, I would have been there already - no questions asked

Labour wanted one, the Tories killed it.

Oh did they? How long ago was that? Because all I’ve seen recently is Labour supporters and MPs calling the idea racist and a tactic to stop them getting votes.

Is there any reason to vote? I don't have any context on anything and would rather abstain this time around. Unless it's important from a long term citizenship paper trail type thing?

I really don't understand the big deal.

it's free ffs.

Yeah exactly. Also saw news reports of people being turned away from the polls because they didn’t have ID. I mean, it’s not like they’ve been telling everyone for over a year, had it in newspapers, online, and it even came with the polling card.

Reminds me of Brexit when people were walking around shocked because they didn’t vote because they didn’t know a referendum was happening.

Where do you live?

Needed it at the last local elections as well.

Yes
The tories need to be removed. They have ANC tendencies.

According to the letter I got, I'm voting for a Police and Crime Commissioner only.

I should probably spend some time learning who and what is going on

Not much of an uptake anyway. Only like 15000 were issued.

It never got as far as being open to the general public without restrictions.

The first year of general public issue was supposed to be 2011.

The first to receive ID cards were foreign nationals, from 25 November 2008. National Identity Cards for British nationals became available to people resident in the Greater Manchester area on 30 November 2009.[38] Ordinary British citizens were then meant to be offered (on a voluntary basis) ID cards from 2011 to 2012

Voting for Police and Crime Commissioner for Kent today... didn't bother with that one.

I’m politically(and more) ignorant and will remain that way. Most I’ll do is google the commissioners name and see if he is a twat or not.
