Immigrating to the UK

Immigration lawyers did not say this, just that it needs to be applied for before new citizenship is accepted.

That’s a weird way of looking at it, as I see it you apply for it and it’s refused or granted. Once granted you don’t accept it, it’s a done deal on the day the citizenship is granted.

I don't get applying to retain South African citizenship if there is a large chance UK citizenship is not going to be granted. But whatever, maybe I've been advised incorrectly, I don't know. Can't go back in time now.

It’s not a big deal, even if they decide you did “renounce” your SA citizenship you can’t be refused resumption of citizenship if you were born in SA (even under the old rules).

It’s too late now for you I think. You had to do this before you got citizenship
its not too late yet.
He has just been told he can get UK citizenship. he doesn't have it yet.

Need to get the letter from HA before you accept your UK citizenship at a ceremony and get a certificate.

don't worry, the people on this forum are not legal experts in immigration.

After your email for success, the UK will invite you within 12 weeks for the official citizenship acceptance and swearing in. That is the date you become a UK citizen.

You need to have got the retention permission letter and DHA approval for retention prior to that date.
They say they have a 3-6 weeks turn around time from application.
So get to a home affairs in next week, take a days leave or whatever, get your application in asap.

Yeah, you can reapply if you move back there permanently. Alternatively, if you decide not to reapply for whatever reason, you’ll still be granted permanent residency because you were born there (HA issues you a letter).

Apparently Labour likes to spend with the Tories usually clawing back debt. This time with covid, the debt is already high so if Labour spends like they normally do, we're in for exciting times.

That’s a bit of a trope perpetuated by the Murdoch press, the Conservatives have spent money like there’s no tomorrow.

General election most likely to be on 4 July. Labour government by 5 July. Then we’re proper ****ed.
This in July, US in November. Glad I'm not involved in next week's trivialities.

About 60% of democratic countries have their elections this year..
