Immigrating to the UK

Thats fine. Its expensive, but not unaffordable for us on just my salary given the time we will be able to save for it. Once she starts to earn then we will bank her salary until we have all the money we need sitting in reserve and it can gather interest while we wait.
Yes it does help being able to save for it in real currency :)

Heavy numbers. We are a family of 4 with my missus being the sponsor.
I’ve got a spreadsheet of all the costs, spent and projected. It is quite a bit of money.
We also had to have the financial requirements in the bank 6 months prior to applying which made for a really tough time.

You can apply for unmarried spouse visa if you have settlement status.

Biometrics done. Nice and quick. Now the three week wait. I'm hoping it goes well. But then again, the SWV is a tick box visa. You either qualify or you don't. Unlike a Visitor visa where it's subjective.

Oh the animals are also a cost I have not added. But to be fair, I think it has not been too terrible for them.

For 6 animals:

- Rabis shots and blood tests - R18k
- Microchips - R 2k or something like that
- Flights, transportation - Door to door service - R123k

Will be booking one way flights as soon as visa is through. We're looking at leave on the 20th of July. That's come about fast - it was over a year ago I spoke with @Sinbad about our plans, fok.

Deciding between Virgin and BA at the moment. Price difference is really marginal. Is Virgin that much better?

How long is the process normally in SA? For a normal work visa application?

How come?
It has been exceptionally slow from their side. Months go by without response.
The kids dad has been really difficult, we got through all the processes except proving we have sole responsibility.
Required a document, which the dad made next to impossible, almost went to high court, during that time the visa process got closed and denied.

We logged an appeal, appeal process has taken over a year. We are still waiting for the assigned case worker to give feedback.

I think it would have been much smoother had we had the exact info demonstrating sole responsibility

Please PM details of who you went with.
I got quoted R70k excluding import charges for a 23kg dog.

Hoping to bring her over as soon as we find a pet friendly place.

Virgin has newer planes and nice headrests (don't need those special pillows), and staff is rather young - likely less jaded.

Haven't flown BA in awhile but all planes are old, unless you get the 380 out of Joburg.
Virgin economy okay space for 6" person, but if you 6.1" or more maybe get eco-plus

Thanks. All passengers are under 6”. I’ll give Virgin a try. Flown BA a few times haven’t been amazed by them.
Only issue is Virgin plane is 3 seats across in the middle aisle. Was hoping for 4 across as it’s 4 of us on the flight. But can work around that.

Thanks

she does not, but I do.

Message me if you need any help or advice on the application. Not sure on your situation or with her biological mother, but there are a few things that could make it easier during the application process
