Immigrating to the UK

They can't certify copies without the signatories present.

Anyway - the form isn't an official document anyway, just a guideline. The only people who are going to look at it are the airline and border control.

Really? I've never had anyone object to any "certifying" - normally the troll at the station just looks at the two forms/documents and if they match they certify it.

I'll take a drive to home affairs next week with forms in hand and see what they have to say anyway.

Just get her to “sign” it remotely using you as a writing instrument and as long as she confirms she “signed” it if anyone asks I can’t really see you having a problem.

I can foresee problems if you start asking questions they might find difficult to answer at home affairs though…

Heard from the embassy that my citizenship ceremony is next week in Dublin, relieved that they didn't want me to go to one in Cape Town. My sister unfortunately was also sent one for Dublin, so she's going to have to get that changed as she lives in Cpt.

Took some doing, and a good chunk of money and time to get the application sorted, but finally there!

Congrats.

I’ve worked out, at current fees, start to finish it’s circa £12,500 in total.

That’s two family visas -> ILR -> Citizenship.

A lot of money but worth it for that passport.

Thats insane. That's way more than I paid, think I'm in for around 80k zar with the double descent route, and I could've done it cheaper through another company. Getting the documents was about 25% or more of the cost but I split that with my sister fortunately.

Son can now get his one too, just needs to go for biometrics and the cost is peanuts. He has a German passport though so we'll see if we'll get him one.

Took about 14 months to get everything from start to finish, but there was a huge delay trying to get my late mothers original vault birth certificate from Malawi.

Congrats! 14months is good going.

Now that my missus has been here I’ve 3 years she can pass citizen on to our youngest so only my and my eldest(now adult) left to naturalise.

That would be excellent of you but as far as I am aware the UK office does not have much to do with it.

Both kids have UK and SA passports, this is just to get them onto the British Airways plane in SA as we have weird rules due to child trafficking.

If you do happen to remember to ask I would love to hear your feedback.
Short of it:

UK mom, SA dad, 2 children that are UK Citizens by descent.
10yo and 16yo
Will be flying from SA to UK to join up with mom.

Also my wife is in Wales and can't just drive to London every week so hopefully the office she must go to is closer than that.
Asked about this when I was there last week, unfortunately clerk couldn’t provide more info but iirc bwana’s experience seemed to indicate it wasn’t a difficult thing for the airline to deal with.

Unrelated to that, they issued my kids with green ID books which I thought odd. Expected ID cards.

I ended up getting my wife to sign typed out versions and fill in blank versions (2 per child as they are going to CT with oupa before they go to the UK).

I took those along with typed out and blank ones to the police station (in case I needed to sign or fill in my own copies).

The Police officer took my wife's hand written ones (scanned in her side printed my side), had me fill in my parts and sign them and then stamped them and filled in the stamped parts (Commissioner of Oaths stamp).
Said that would do the job.

So yea, those along with copies of my wife's UK passport and SA ID as well as certified copies of my Passport and ID and certified copies of the children's SA and UK Passports and Unabridged birth certificates should hopefully be enough to get this done.

I have been trying since last year to get my daughter her SA I.D.
Home affairs refuses to help "must go to bank they do not do it there" and not a single slot available for the last 8 odd months in any bank within a 90 minute drive from our house.
Ironically enough the booking site says I must go to home affairs and get it done there.
Now it is 32 days till the kids leave for good so I have given up on that little side quest.

Yeah, I honestly wouldn't bother now, either.

How are you doing? and the kids? 30 days will come by very quickly. But it's for their future and the best thing.

Citizenship ceremony done and dusted, took 5 to 10 minutes at the embassy, there were only a few of us there so was very quick. :) Next up is the passport application.
God save the King!

Is that the home affairs website that gets you slots for the bank? If I recall, to book my passports I had to edit the website to put in dates outside of the date range selector (or something like that) - otherwise it was always booked.

Whats the lead time on getting a new passport from the London embassy?

Need to replace my kids

They both have both their passports, passports are easy.
