Immigrating to the UK

People who think it's cheap n easy to emigrate are in for a huge cash shock 😂 The costs are out of this world.

As a matter of interest, how common are relocation packages? Every time I’ve moved countries and/or Cities it has been super expensive, but always paid for.

I'd say it depends. For your average person of average skill; not all that common at all. Highly skilled people with degrees in their fields may have the option.

At the moment, just finding sponsored work without anything extra is tough for people.

Couldn't tell you, I only know 2 people that were offered a package. Well 3 but the 3rd was about 10 years back. All skilled, degrees and no degrees but all highly skilled. Myself and roughly 7 other friends did it all on own steam.

I had a relocation package, paid for my visa fees and moving of household items, including animals. I wouldn't say it's common at all though, was kind of lucky they offered, and nowadays it's a miracle if you even get a new sponsorship

My company does them, but only for internal transfers. Most recent I saw was London to Sydney. Think they had a couple for Cape Town to London last year.

That move would have been really expensive for me back in my late 20s. I wonder if this trend means that foreign workers are going to tend to be older.

All documents have been uploaded. The Mrs just needs to make sure she has everything in physical copy as well. Appointment is booked for Tuesday (so I didn't even have to pay an extra grand to get her an earlier time slot).
In total we have 58 files.

And to celebrate paying so much money for a wife, I decided to order one of these: https://52degreessouth.com/biltong-...ters-biltong-maker-with-white-back-panel.html

Been eyeing it for a while now. Once it arrives I will order my vinegar and meat, and then I start to make sure I can satisfy my Afrikaans wife in the ways her father would approve of.

You could have paid £20 less for a different colour. Or was a grey back panel critical?

BTW - you don't have to order vinegar - it's a staple in most shops. :)
the one I ordered has the door, saves me from lifting up the lid.

I want the authentic SA flavours, so I want to use Safari Brown Spirit vinegar which is made from Sugar cane rather than Malt vinegar which is made from barley.

Actually, that's probably not a bad idea - did you know the "vinegar" you get in most chippies isn't actually vinegar but a "non-brewed condiment"...

Have you taken out a decent enough loan for the beef?

No wonder the chips actually taste like ****. I am still battling to find a good chippy.

£28 for 2kg, which means I get 1kg biltong for £28 which is half the price of what you'd pay in store, and when my in-laws come to visit I can impress my very Afrikaans FIL with my biltong that I would have spent a lot of time perfecting.

Safari is the same (that’s why it’s brown), I can’t remember what they colour it with, caramel? comes to mind.

Pure spirit vinegar is clear, for example

Spirit Vinegar, Caramel colour, (Preservative, Sulphur Dioxide 5% Acidity).

With Safari it seems to be for colour, not flavour. The Morrisons one seems to be for flavour.
I guess using brown vinegar for biltong would help to darken the meat.
