Import tax on laptop off eBay?

Hi,

I would just like to know what the total cost would be to import the following MSI GE620 laptop off eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/MSI-GE620-021US...93284331?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item4cf8e530eb
Price: $965.00
Shipping (USPS Express Mail International) to RSA: $101.70

If my memory serves me right, I will be paying ($965.00 * 1.1 * 1.14 + $101.70) * R6.60/$ ~= R8653.33 ?

I'm trying to find a laptop for someone (girl who's studying designing) on Twilight Gaming for under R7500 which can be used for Photoshop & Illustrator...

was my amount on a 550 dollars laptop.

so i payed about 16% tax, not sure if they maybe made some cash out of me or something, but meh not the end of the world :P ( i used company to ship it and pay them the taxes,
much faster , shipped friday, monday i had the laptop )
 
Try one in SA? International shipping on laptops would be quite expensive since they're big, heavy items. For 2D drawing programs only you don't really need that much muscle so the stuff you get in SA for around R7k should be fine. I don't know why you want something with a 1080 screen though since the linked thread doesn't mention that, and it would be pretty much impossible to get one in that price range. Also, I know it's generalising a bit but most girls don't like 17" laptops, they prefer smaller ones.

You're right about the girls preferring smaller laptops. The laptops that I suggested was 15.6" laptops, which is IMO perfect size, since 17" laptops are too big like you said.
1080p isn't a necessity, but I really can't recommend any 1366x768 resolution laptops, because that is just too darn small. So I'd stay with 1600x900 ones, which are pretty scarce in SA.

Yeah, 2D applications might not require an i7 like that laptop that I posted the link to on eBay, but I would at the very least suggest a high end dual core with a dedicated ATI graphics card.

I've looked around and the HP Pavilion G6 @ R6.5k and HP Pavilion G7 @ R7k seems like pretty good options too, with the G7 having pretty much just a bigger screen (17").

Not trying to hijack this thread but: I tried recently to find a Apple TV v2 on ebay but every seller I checked does not ship to good ol' SA. How do you search ebay to only get sellers that ship here? The normal method to narrow the search does nothing for me. BTW: I did find one on have2have.co.za for R999. Best deal I could find here so far.
 
I already checked out myus.com and their prices for shipping etc negates the whole point of buying from the US. Maybe I saw wrong but if you can tell me exactly what it will cost in total for me to buy a $99 AppleTV from ebay and have it sent here via myus.com and still be cheaper than R999 then i would appreciate it. I'm not quite sure how the myus.com service actaully works especially wrt to pricing.

lol sure I have a 17" laptop screen and I find it small. When I use someones 15" laptop it looks tiny and especially the 12" ones
