[Important] Galaxy S2 APN not saving

Hi everyone,

I upgraded my Galaxy SII I9100 via -> http://www.viotutorials.com/2012/11/how-to-update-samsung-galaxy-s2-gt_21.html
site and details. The phone upgraded and everything works 100% except mobile data.

I take these steps to get mobile data active and working. MTN -> dial *123# -> Choose MMS & WAP Settings.

Configuration files download and I install them. All is well in the world.

Then: I go to Settings -> More Settings -> Mobile Networks
Mobile Data is ticked
Access Point Names
and I see: MTN-DATA and MTN-MMS-GPRS

no internet access at all. All is not well after all.

Contact MTN, change settings: instead of myMTN -> internet, MCC and MNC set according to MTN (655 & 10)
Press menu button and Save

MTN-DATA dissapears off the list and even when I try to create a new APN it is still not there.

Any ideas or help would be so much appreciated as the only way to internet access is through wifi.

Are you using the exact rom from the site you listed above (the XXLSJ one)?

You know this isn't the final release and it has some issues (most notably an annoying lockscreen bug)? The official final release can be downloaded from here:http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=10785

This is the Spanish release, but it works 100% for all the i9100 international models.

Not anymore... XXLS6. With trying to figure out what the issue could be and what I can, or failed, to do to fix it, I have gone ahead and rooted and about to flash with Revolt Jelly Bean ROM.

Sorry... Final Update on the missing / uncooperative APN.

Done SIM Swap and it are all working 100%.

Thanks again everyone for the help

This has been answered repeatedly in the S2 thread, JellyBean implements a new way of reading the APN settings directly from the SIM, so it doesn't accept the MTN "push over air" settings. I cannot remember the tech talk, search the S2 thread for the jargon. Long story short, you need a new SIM from MTN @ R115-00 IIRC (SIM swap).

You will not be able to manually set the APN unless you use another modem driver on your custom ROM, the default JB modem doesn't allow you to save the settings.

We really should sticky this. A lot of people will have the same problem using outdated SIMs.
