Hi guys,
so I have found a nice deal on ebay where i can get the used iPhone 3G 16GB for under R2 000.
Would you guys advise not importing something like this? why? will i have to pay any taxes, duties etc?
Thanks for input

PS: Please dont suggest a different phone!!

i am guessing you are going to have to jailbreak it...

If you can get MORE than just 1 Iphone let me know I will love to get a Iphone for my daughter

you can always get one off ebay... I can do it for you as long as you pay first :)
PM me if you interested

PS: Wish I had a Dad like you

Add 14%VAT and 7% customs duty to the item's customs value (i.e. excl shipping), and add the courier's clearing fee. That should be pretty close to your final cost. Also assuming it gets declared correctly (as a cellular handset).

I'm interested but would like to know the full cost...

does that apply to second hand stuff? what if its marked as a gift?

Get it shipped without the box. Say you left it there or something, tell them you are a testing it for something.

If it's quadband, it should work here no troubles?

I have a friend off to the States in Sept. Might see if I can get them to bring me one:D

k cool... only time will tell.. dont want it without box!

VAT is standard on anything you import, and AFAIK duties too - not matter whether it is new or used. Phone the SARS callcentre to confirm - they are extremely helpfull. A 'gift' may get by with 0 rating - probably depends on the mood of the person doing the clearing at customs.
