Hello

I am not a technical person so need some guidance.I have a 100mb Fibre line but my wifi is a serious problem.I only get around 25mb on average. How can I improve this?Any routers that can be recommended without breaking the bank would be appreciates.Under 1k

How far are you from the router?

What device is reporting this 25mbps you mention?

Hello.I am about 3 metres from the router.I completed a a speed test on my phone and on my laptop.

Try connecting to the 5GHz network. I also have a 100mb Fibre line. When I connected to the 5GHz network I went from +/- 40mb to 100mb.

You need to check if your wifi spec can handle it. Normally, the rated speeds are in lab conditions, so you need to take that into account.

Since I am also not a technical, I use old routers as access points to get coverage throughout my house. It works quite well.

Secondly use an app like wifi analyzer (google play) scan the wifi, and check if the channel your router is set to is congested, if congested, change to a unused/least used channel.

I am on channel 11, as you can see channel 1 is congested, most router that I have/owned were set as default to channel 1.

Your channel might be congested, which is why when you changed frequency you got full speed, remember 5ghz does not a wide area of coverage.

I recommend the wifi analyzer simply because it help you with troubleshooting. You will find people buying new equipment without understanding why they not getting the speeds or coverage.

As more and more people are using wifi, congestion is getting more and more of a problem.

Just like roads, some congested roads(channels) should be avoided.
