Incompetence by the DA?

The DA themselves criticized this, if you read the article. Even they think this was suspect.

But, there are two important things.

First is that the payments were not made to friends and family, but actual companies doing actual work. Second, the work was done - service delivery in CT is proof of that. Third, the DA doesnt shy away from criticizing its own when they done wrong - thats why they improve.

If this was the ANC, there would be denial all round with a bit of "Find out who spilled the beans" served for good measure.

We should be expecting heads to start rolling round about now...criticizing is just not good enough.

Quote: "Here is a company hired by the city that gave the wrong advice. It said the city wouldn't be liable for VAT ... PricewaterhouseCoopers was then hired to advise the city and these people were paid R1,9m without a tender."

So let me get this right. These people hire an adviser, who gave them wrong advice and nobody picked this up from the DA. Then when ***** hits the fan, they hire PWC (WITHOUT A TENDER), to give them advice on the previous advice that they received? Wow!!!! I don't know how anybody can even attempt to defend that.

...only a sheep would. :erm:

There is no way to know this for sure if the correct tender and vetting processes weren't adhered to. That is why they are there.

Second, the work was done - service delivery in CT is proof of that.

But could it have been done at a lower cost or more effectively if the correct tender processes were followed?

If this was the ANC, there would be denial all round with a bit of "Find out who spilled the beans" served for good measure.

This isn't about the ANC. This is about corruption in the DA and we should focus on it. This "We might be bad but we are better than X" justification is utter rubbish.

MyKKK members?

This is not incompetence it's corruption, awarding contracts without following procedure. Tenders for buddies!

To me this isn't about corruption, more about inefficiency. It not like the ANC, where they tender out all their contract to their useless family members. I agree this should be stopped and is wrong. But comparing them to the ANC is like comparing a robber to a Mass Murdering Rapist.

So that the youth league can destroy it (again)??? No no no no no - I hope the lesson was learnt - give anything for free and destroy they will... Rather sponsor them the bricks and cement - maybe they'll have more respect for something if they built it themselves...

Yeah, I thought about that too - lazy blacks, how dare they expect free houses when decent god-fearing white folks have to work for them etc.

But on the other hand, after suffering through 40 years of institutionalised racism (at least) I don't think it's too much for them to ask for a decent roof over their head and more than just a pot to piss in.

Anyway, back on topic. I am looking forward to a full disclosal from the DA regarding why all this money was spent, why it was spent on people who clearly had no idea what they were doing, and why they didn't follow tender processes. I'm betting the answer to the last one will be something like 'the f-up was so big by that stage we needed urgent help and didn't have time to go through the motions'.

I have one last question :

Where is the DA's official mouthpiece capetownguy with some sort of defence?

I'm a DA supporter and I seriously hope that heads roll for these corrupt tender processes. This sort of thing is unacceptable for any ruling party. These practices need to be condemned by DA voters or we are no better than the ANC supporters we always criticise for being mindless.

+1

One of the supposedly superior consultants made a costly blunder, neh?

Why was the contractor asked to determine wether the city should pay vat? He was asked to advise on the system and something like that could quie possiby be a international consultant who has no idea of the tax laws in this country.

As has been said, they must be held accountable but the decision to speak to consultants was not a bad one.

Actually we are not amused but we are only demanding good governance across the political spectrum...afterall this is the taxpayer's money, right?

How about taking some of that good advice and having a look else where in the country, hell you know your party stands for corruption.

All I want the ANC to do is answer one questions for me.

Why in contravention of the Municipal Systems Act which enshrines Public Participation were ANC City Council Meetings held in camera and the agenda withheld from the Public?

lol so true...guys what does nepotism mean :o
