Inconsiderate N1 Bikers

Of the 30 bikers, 28 of them were exceeding the speed limit and lane splitting when it was unsafe to do so.

you do realise there is this thing called confirmation bias right?

on your drive to work you proibly see 30 bikes.
its thursday today, so that makes around 210 instances of bikes being in your range where you can see them while you drive to and from work.

was there a guy yesterday that got effectively cut off by you, that revved his bike? how about monday, or tuesday?

I am one of those bikers that ride on exactly that stretch of road (I am on an orange cruiser that you would not have seen this week because it is being serviced)

I completely agree with you that there are some bikers who do ride like ****h nozzles. but its not 90% like you claim op.
its one in about 200.
that is 0.5%

oh and just to explain how I get to the number I used, I have been in a car for this week and I love bikes, I have have been counting. I get between 26 and 38 bikes per one way comute. (along a very similar route to what OP describes.)

so while I do understand the need to rant, your aggression should be directed at the Taxi, not at the bike, he was causing you to break the law, and unfortunately that is all the guy on the bike could see.

Agree with you on the rest, but what law was broken by OP?

Of the 30 bikers, 28 of them were exceeding the speed limit and lane splitting when it was unsafe to do so.

of the 400 cars, 5 of them were not on their cell phones, 2 of them stuck to below the speed limit and 1 of them used their indicator for every move they made.

no one drives 100% according to the k53 dude, you in your car have 2 tons between you and the next idiot sending a whatsapp while driving, while I have nothing. I think if you were in my position you would try to limit the amount of time you spend on the road as well.

and as a side note of the 30 bikes about 14 of them are delivery bikes, who are not speeding or lane splitting (most of the time)

Ja, no... I totally agree with you. A-holes all of them. It means about 98% of the other drivers and bikers I have to deal with are total a-holes.
I see people texting all of the time. Or chatting on their phones. Or having a fat animated chat with the person in the passenger seat.
I saw it this morning. The lady in front of me stopped at an intersection where the pointsmen were waving for her to go because she was on her cellphone.
She didn't even notice about five cars honking at her.
But the a-hole bikers are more obvious because they get 10,000% more angry than the car drivers. And car drivers don't usually smash your rear view mirrors off.
But a-hole bikers will kick your car or break your mirror in an instant. I've lost about 5 mirrors that way in my lifetime and had one accident with an idiot biker on a crotch rocket.

From the OP, the way he was forced to change lanes without indicating. technically that is against the law.

OP didn't change lanes. He just didn't leave a gap between him and the fast lane, and the fast lane cars didn't move over either.

Or else the bike overlook him on the RIGHT while the OP was in the fast lane, so as to have damaged the driver side window...

sigh... "paint the entire group/race/religion/sex" with the same brush. Wow can definately see the biased views.
Anyhow... CPT bikers, generally seem to be decent. the odd one or two per day on my commute that believe they own the road. Twist my mirror... oopsie! my foot hit the accelerator due to shock and aggression by the biker :P

Last week on the N1 outbound in CPT, a truck overturned and caused major congestion (even though all lanes on the N1 were open).
After the scene of the accident, the road was clear and everyone sped up.

This particular stretch of road is an 80kmph zone.
I was doing about 80 and a lady in front of me was going a bit slower with her indicator on wanting to move over to the left lane.
All of a sudden, a biker comes flying down the N1 at what looked like almost twice my speed between the lane I was in and where the car in front of me wanted to move to.

While proceeding to switch lanes, she spots the biker approaching at a completely stupid speed, freaks out, indicates right and moves back to where she started.
Biker slams his brakes, moves in front of her and starts cursing at her and giving her the finger.
Really??

If he was anywhere close to the speed limit, he would have been a couple hundred meters behind her when she switched lanes and would have noticed her indicator on.

I do agree though that not all of them are such complete *******s.

Haven't seen a single person in this thread say that. Can you refer to any particular post?

loosing one mirror is unfortunate, and can be because of an a hole biker,

but if it really has happened 5 times you should be looking at WHY its happening.
are you putting yourself in the way, are you maybe being one of those people that even the most calm and collected biker like myself would loose his sh*t at?

I have been riding for 12 years this year.
I have grabbed one womens phone from her hands and smashed it on the road. she was swerving really badly because she was BBMing.

I have kicked one lady's mirror off.
she turned left into oncoming traffic (corner modderfontein and peace road) she nearly hit me and 3 otehr cars. I was not lane splitting. the robot was solidly green for us and red for her. she never stopped, just ran the robot.
when we got to the next robot I took her mirror off, gave it to her and said "next time pay a bit of attention" got back on my bike and rode off.

let me ask you this. if you keep falling for 419 scams, is it because you have poor spam filtering, or because you are gullible?

See, there you go, you are part of the problem. You see your actions as justified. So did the biker in the OP - he thought he was justified in breaking the mirror.

Here is a tip - you aren't. What you did is assault and both actions are criminal. If somebody had videotaped you, you would have been found guilty of assault or criminal damage to property.

People drive badly all the time - I don't get out of my car and assault them. If I did it, it would be called road rage. Somehow when a biker like you does it, you think it is right and justified.

One of these days, you'll break someone's phone and they will just pull out a gun and shoot you. I'm not saying that is what I want to happen, I'm saying one of these days it will, and you will make the news and everybody will say, "What a tragedy"

But if you behave like that, it will happen.

went and re read, I misunderstood. my bad. apologies OP.

Yes this is a rant and I had to rewrite it a couple of time because nothing ever dies on the internet.
This morning I was once again reminded why most drivers hate bikers.
I know it's not all of you guys, but the majority are entitled little bitches.
So sorry to you guys that do not fall into this group, this it not for you guys.

This morning driving to JHB the traffic was stop and go at a couple of places. I'm in the second lane from the middel.
Close to Vodaworld we just start moving again and there is the bloody taxi on my left hand side driving on or over the line into my lane.
Along come this prick on his bike driving between the fast and my lane.
So now I'm trying not to be hit by the taxi by slowing down and keeping my car away from it.
Next thing the biker is at my window revving his bike like I'm doing something wrong.

So what do you want me to do?!?! Crash my car into the taxi so that you can get to work faster. Well **** you!
When he finally could dodge the cars in the fast lane (who could have moved out of the way much easier) and pass me, he took my drivers side mirror and twisted it all the way to the front.
Just checked at work and thanks for breaking my fold down mirror you *******!

So if you are reading this you entitled ****, I hope your bike gets stuck when the sun doesn't shine!!!!!!!

When I'm able to move out of the way and even drive in the yellow part in the fast lane I do it.
I get maybe 1 out 30 guys nodding his head in thank you when I do that. The rest just speed on.
So once again sorry for you bikers than can read the situation on the road and who would have waited for me to dodge the taxi.
The rest of you, well I can't say what I want to on a open forum...

I just want to understand this...

The taxi crept into your lane. Instead of stopping to let the tax in you crept onto another lane?

Having words or throwing gestures is one thing, but I disagree at damage to personal property. Come on, I accept there are complete morons out there driving, I try my best to avoid getting into situations with them and move on. Ride defensively, live longer. Dont turn yourself into another road moron.

So you readily admit that you are part of the problem and an A-hole biker?

I have not claimed my actions were justified. I understand I was in the wrong.
but again, the women with the phone I could have laid a claim of attempt at murder against.

I understand my actions went too far. both of these incidents happened in 2012.

just as a side note, the women who's mirror I ripper off, a guy in a hilux bakkie also got out at the robot as well and started screaming at her.
he was behind her and I honestly thought he was coming to her defence based on my actions. that is why I left so quickly.

but he screamed at her.

as ready as everyone else on this forum is to admit they never break any laws of the road and always drive 100% according to the k53

Haven't seen a single person in this thread say that. Can you refer to any particular post?

then read more article you will find em.... do not have time today to find those articles.

No I don't think you do understand your actions were wrong. You can't accuse her of attempted murder because you can't prove that she intended to kill you or anyone else.

She was a negligent driver - guess what, there are millions of negligent drivers and motorcyclists in this country and this is why the death toll is so high. Get used to it and stop expecting everyone else to treat you like a princess on the road. Because they won't, and they never will, and this is why they try to teach car drivers to drive defensively. Drive like everyone else on the road is an idiot and you will be right 50% of the time.

You are still trying to defend your actions instead of just admitting you were wrong and you were an aggressive, angry biker.

And you wonder why bikers have a bad name?
