I am the most laid back character you will likely meet. But if a cager (car driver) cuts me off so severely that I need to brake/swerve/take major evasive action to save my skin; and its because they didn't check their mirrors before swerving into my lane (only to get ahead of the guy ahead of them by 5 mtrs) I will be giving you my sternest DEAD STARE as well as a disapproving shake of my head. Challenge that at your peril. Most drivers apologize and recognize their error with a smile and a friendly "sorry wave" gesture. No worries. I carry on.

Flip me the bird or mouth something obscene at me because Im a little pi$ $ed off... your mirror IS coming off.

I think a big issue is when you have bikes splitting lanes at 60 - 80km/s per hour - you could very well not have been in the cars mirror when they started executing the lane change...

I realise that - but people always go on about how cars only but biker's lives at risk and not the other way around..

Yeah, that is great in theory. I do look out for bikers, pedestrians and other cars. In theory it works great.

In practice, it doesn't. People are idiots. They whatsapp while driving. They drive drunk. They do all sorts of things are not supposed to do while driving. As a car driver, I accept that as the reality. I don't ask that everyone behave perfectly on the road because I accept that as unrealistic. So I drive cautiously - I assume other people on the road are blind idiots with aggression problems. Most of the time I am wrong, sometimes I am right.

Bikers like you and Pitbull do not want to accept reality. You do not want to accept that, as much as it would be great in an ideal world if every car driver was alert and courteous, it is not the reality. It never will be. Breaking mirrors and phones will not change anything and not teach anyone anything. So you waste your time, you get upset over something you have NO control over.

So yes, you do ask to be treated like princesses because your expectations are completely unrealistic.

When you accept that people are bad drivers and accept that you have no control over that, you will be happier.

That is precisely it - your mode of transport, whether 2 wheels or more, does not make you more special. It does not entitle you to special treatment from anyone. Why can't bikers accept that? The mode of transportation you select has ZERO influence over other drivers. You need to accept that.

In an ideal world, people would not rape or murder. Guess what? It isn't an ideal world. Get used to it.

I wish we could all just agree EVERYONE drives like they are high on coke and have a best friend ODing in the back seat ALL the time
(read: badly and without caring about other road users)

Funny how all the mad raging bikers consider themselves calm people. I have a friend who's like that, thinks he's chill and stuff, yet freaks out on TeamSpeak like a mad gorilla. I've pointed this out to him, but his response is the same as yours. "But sir, it was justified".

Funny how that works.

At 60km/h a bike does 16.66m per second. Are you saying you can't see 50m behind you when checking your mirror before you change lanes? And you don't even need 50 meters. That's 3 seconds... mostly the bike is only a meter or two away when you guys decide to switch lanes. That with my headlights on and my bike making a massive noise. There is no excuse.

I sincerely hope you get what is coming to you with this **** attitude. In fact, I guarantee your tough guy attitude will catch up to you one day. Please carry on and keep doing what you are doing. Would love someone to take you out of the gene pool.

um, dude, she is not a biker.
she does not even ride on the back of mine, she is too scared.

and just a side note, most bikers drive defensively and do not want to be treated like a pretty princess as you put it. we just want to be freaking seen so we do not die.

also, its another reason why I ride a cruiser, you will hear me AND see me (potentially at least)

Please don't get me wrong. I too have once or twice neglected to check my mirrors and then just to have a fright when a biker revs or hoots at me. I apologise as I'm a biker myself and know how it feels. I have not had my mirror taken off as I apologise profusely admitting my mistake. If my mirror was to be taken off I would not have a fit about it as I know I deserved it. People in general are too caught up in our own lives and the race to get where we're going to be considerate to others on the road. I blame the lack of policing on it but that's what it is. Hopefully the OP will be using his mirrors next time and someone's father, brother, husband, son, wife, daughter... will make it home alive because of it in the future.
 
I wonder if the wing mirror vigilantes in this thread would object to a car driver ripping the mirrors off their bikes if they drove like idiots...

I have bitten off more than I can chew many times before. It's part of life. You can't always win. It's about getting back up and not backing down... ever. I have been knocked on my arse before and I probably will again. So I should now stop living because I might die? /shiver... OMG PLEASE NO!!!

Actually, it does... A persons mind is a strange thing, and bikes tend to disappear (without any malicious intent from road users).
1) Bikes are slim, so people often misjudge how far away they are and/or their speed
2) Bikes are bikes, not cars, and with our minds that are pattern recognition machines the brain sometimes erases things that it thinks don't match.

Having said that, I think the onus is on the biker to ride with the above in mind. But it certainly won't hurt if non bikers can also drive with the above in mind.
