I have a credit card debt that I have not paid in almost 3 years which should soon prescribe. In my credit report, I see that the account number is no longer the same for this account and the last payment date is incorrect. Can I ask the credit bureau to send me documents with my signature and proof that I paid the creditor on this date reflected on my credit report? If they can't send me this information can I request the credit bureau to remove this account from my credit profile?

Scummy lawyers/collectors probably paid in a small amount to stop the debt from going into prescription. Also removing the debt wont be as easy as just calling the bureau.

You can but you won't get anywhere, they don't manufacture the credit record, they work with what they get from credit providers. And be careful of what you do since the idea is to run away from your debt, you don't want to inadvertently admit to it.

As if they have the documents, if you want documents you must contact the credit provider.

What you can do is you dispute the information with the credit bureau, then the credit provider must provide proof to the bureau.

Thank you Supersunbird. That is the plan. I don't know this account, the creditor needs to prove it exists. I hope it will work. I'm thinking I should avoid contacting the provider (debt collector).

I have debt.

I am not responsible for my debt.

I will ignore MY DEBT for three years.

I hope this debt just goes away...

Thank you TheCamp, I will be sure to not even say hello to the debt collector. My hope is that the credit bureau will contact them and request proof and if they can't submit it, remove the account altogether from my credit profile.

Lol, that was not the plan when I took the credit believe me. Things just got to the point where I could not cope.

I had the same issue, just lodge it as prescribed and they remove it, no need to stress, apparently the details(account number) change when you get listed as a default payer.

Hi Epah, If they did will that not be a fraud? So what do I need to do to remove it. I was hoping the incorrect information would be enough to have the account removed? Is there no law that prohibits submitting incorrect information to the credit bureaus?

Your debt was sold to a collection agency hence the account number differs from the original. Perfectly legal.

Now they trying their best not to let it prescribe.

How is it fraud?

I can just pop a few rand into your account... not exactly fraud...

Not if it still within the three year period. They can still issue a default summons for a judgement.

How can you simultaneously admit that you never paid the debt and then ask for proof that you did?
So basically, I queried on the incorrect account number that is on my credit report. I did not admit to owning the account. They need to provide me with the document with the same account number with my signature on it and also provided proof that I did pay on the date they gave the credit bureau.

That is possible. I'm not sure they can do that if the debt has been sold and I have not acknowledged it. I stand to be corrected?

They can indeed but that last payment you mentioned is kinda suspicious. If not you. who made that payment. As others have said, probably scummy lawyers trying to halt the prescription.
