It seems crazy to me that their prices are so out of whack.

Why? If people are buying at those prices then it's obviously working for them. If people don't go to the effort of doing any research before they buy then that's their problem. I often find their staff more annoying and clueless than their prices though.
It must be said that they do sometimes have really good deals.

Opinions seem to be changing though, even my not so technologically inclined parents have realised that they are generally expensive.

Incredible's prices, specifically on peripherals, is generally not bad. I wouldn't touch their hardware component upgrade parts - massively inflated.

A friend used to work at HP. I'd ask him to organise a deal on an HP notebook to which he'd reply: "Go to Incredible. They get the lowest resale price of anyone in South Africa". Sure as sheep. Incredible sometimes match/beat our companies hardware supplier.

Unfortunately the Mass that dont know better will swear by Incredible as a household brand for IT. Ask around on the street as to where you can buy a computer, Incredible incredibly pops up often.

Well then I belong to the Mass as I've found IC to be the most competitive with laptop deals, then again I'm not a loyal customer and go where I get the best service & good prices.

Laptops and screens IC usually have at some of the best prices around... But that i'm sure is because of their bulk buying.. But alot of otherthings are quite pricey.. Games and general hardware like CPU's and GPU's are way overpriced..

Yea but you won't buy certain things from them, remember comparing incredible's pricing to an online store is also a bit unfair. Online stores don't have 40-60k rent to recover a month.

Dude i have never actually found anything i want form a matrix, they always have to order it for me which kind of defeats the purpose of their store .

Incredible simply caters for people who don't know any better so they will just buy. It's a model that makes them a ton of cash. Who are we to say they are ripping people off, perhaps some people don't want to hassle with price.

Look at the mac crowd for instance, they know they are getting ripped off big time yet mac is amazingly popular even though their pricing is rather high. Why you ask? People think expensive means quality.

I would also charge incredible pricing if i could see the market was there to do so. You charge what people are willing to pay and obviously many people are willing to pay . If you ran a pc store and noticed people were buying your expensive items would you start discounting the products or would you see what else people are willing to pay a premium for?

Working in IT retail, I know for a fact that Incredible actually gets better pricing on alot of goods because of the quantities that they buy and their markup is insane.

Speaking with one of my suppliers the other day, she remarked that her goods were suffering due to Incredible dropping prices (lol) on their laptops, so they make it up on accessories instead and they have a lower turnover on those goods now.

I still don't see why people would go buy cartridges there either, the price difference between them and smaller shops is also insane! When they charge R50 to R100 extra PER cartridge and people buy 5 of them, it makes me wanna rage!

A certain trend in South Africa is more money less sense it seems

I just meant in a general case that those who are not in the know will just resort to buying from Incredible regardless of specials, ultra low prices or rip off deals. I buy where an ideal combination of low price and warranty will lead to.

I suppose thats a good point. Maybe the floor salesmen should just be a little more savvy and be given the ability to negotiate prices a little, or even the ability to sell the service rather than just says "eish the price is set by HO".
