Incredible Fail!

Most of them just stand around and play Guitar Hero on the demo TV...

This is not about "us" trying to show off. You expect people who work at a large computer store to know what they are talking about. Which they don't.

This is what happens: Normal not-so-into-computer-people goes to IC, trust their opinions and make bad choices based on bad advice. And this is what makes me really mad.

I totaly agree. Tho my original post was really just a bitch about the fact that they have a crap load of modems and not one NIC, you have brought up a gem of a point. The fact that they are not there for " people like us" is irelevant. Try going into matrix and asking for a NIC. They will sure as he'll know what you're on about. In fact my wife went to matrix today and asked for a "wired card" and they managed to supply her with the correct thing. At half the price of IC. And you can't tell me that they are paid much more than IC staff? If as much?

I disagree, up to a point. The guy should probably have known what a network card is, but as an example: if I work with CAD software everyday and know a particular product inside out it would be unreasonable of me to walk into a store and expect someone to have that same level of knowledge about the product. Now consider the fact that they have hundreds of different products, you simply cannot expect one person to know everything about every item.

Sometimes their prices are actually very good and and it is convenient to buy from them, their service varies of course but I have found quite a few people who actually know what they are doing, but also one guy who didn't know what a vga cable was:D

We are not talking about knowing the ins and outs of every product but if you sell a product you should at least know the name or abrieviations used for it and what it does. Yea, If you worked in say a bike shop and some one came and asked for a network card there would be a problem but this is a computer store so a network card is some thing that should be well known by its staff. Yes IC has a lot of products but many are prity well known products, every one should be able to identify quite easily most of the products with out much problem, so the sales person should make a consius effort to find out about the ones that he/she does not know.

If only to avoid loooking like a tool when someone comes and looks for a NIC.:D

If you said that to me I, and probably most other people, would think of someone named Nick before thinking of a network card. I'm sorry but that's not a very nice attitude you have.

Yea, but is it your job to sell a NIC?:D

If you are not a sales person spicifically employed to sell PC parts and related products of course you wont. Staff at IC should know what it is because they are supposed to sell them.
