Industry wants open standards

I doubt Fraser-Molewhatever has a clue with any of this. Be that as it may- they favour standards because they can then develop their own software applications and get a slice of the pie, instead of relying on open-source software from which they can make very little money.

While the South African government has been an outspoken advocate of open source software over the past few years, the IT companies that supply technology to government favour open standards.

and yet government schools teach M$ office.
go figure.

I never understood the power of open source until I started developing for it. Having the source code available makes debugging a dream.

LIES! Open standards usually go hand in hand with open source applications. Why would people prefer to pay for a program that implements open standards when there is a perfectly capable open source program that does an even better job?

Edit: I misread. It's the "Industry" that would prefer to only implement open the standards so they can help M$ milk consumers for a little longer.

Or even better, improve the existing program to fit your needs.
