I am looking at buying a 2005 BMW X3 2.0d, car is in great condition, still in motorplan (although just) with about 75000km on the clock for about 150k. I really like the car, but two things:

1. Is there anything I should look out for that may have been a consistent problem on these cars (turbo, clutch, gearbox, etc)?

2. What is the realistic Diesel consumption in traffic and on the long road? The stats on the spec sheet usually means nothing?

Any info would be appreciated!

how is the car still in motorplan? did they extend it? AFAIK BMW MP is 5 years or 100 000km, whichever comes first.

Yeah, they extended it to 7yrs/150000km according to the dealer. So the 7 yrs ends in a couple of months.

Ah ok that is at least a good thing.

I would get a history of the vehicle from the dealer for starters

With BMW it's pretty inexpensive to add more years to the motorplan. Adding km is another matter. Considering it's already paid up till 150k, you may want to consider extending it for a year or two just for the extra piece of mind.

Yeah thanks... i'll definitely do that, to see the service history and to check that the vehicle is legit. My uncle bought a BMW a couple of years back and the fuzz showed up at his house for bying a stole car. Luckily got an invoice, but lost the car and all his cash.

still gonna be a couple k to extend years, like R20k for 2 years or something

Can only extend a BMW motorplan for 2 years. So that is 7 years in Total. The X3 is extended to its max for years.

don't mean to hijack but can anyone let me know what its like to maintain a Diesel vehicle
specially a BMW after motor plan has elapsed? costs etc. im also considering getting an
older diesel BMW that might be going out of motor plan soon
