POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic Information Systems consultant with an solid, holistic understanding of various IS disciplines. A good general understanding of operating systems, networking, hosting (web and LAN servers), virtualisation and data systems is essential. The candidate will be required to consult with management and staff at different levels in different organisations, backgrounds and cultures including foreign governments and NGOs. As such, the position requires good communication skills and the able to engage clients and colleagues enthusiastically face to face, telephonically and eMail / IM. Ability to discern and communicate appropriate technical details to a non-technical audience is required. The position involves implementing and maintaining data systems and a good understanding of SQL is required. Statistics and BI experience is advantageous. The position entails international travel to developing countries including Afghanistan. Approximately 25% travel time in year 1 would be required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
7+ years working experience in an information systems environment
Experience designing data systems and / or data warehousing
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science / Information Systems or equivalent
DHIS 2 implementation experience advantageous
Some software development experience advantageous but not required
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Design and deploy data systems based on existing platforms
Advise / inform the software development team on technical requirements for software development projects
Be familiar data import / export to / from various formats
Write technical documentation related to the project
Train clients and company staff
Reports to the Senior Technical Lead
Be a good communicator
Be prepared to work with a diverse international team from Africa, Caribbean, India, Middle East and USA
Be prepared to travel to developing countries.
Be able to work unsupervised.
Advantageous but not required experience:
DHIS 2 implementation
Statistics and BI
Software / web development
Experience with international development, working with public service entities and NGOs
Preference will be given to Candidates willing to work from our Johannesburg / Pretoria but East London based candidates will be considered.
