Insect Bite - Which doctor to see?

Only 2 variations that might be possible is fly or mite related but fly is unlikely and the mite situation would mean you live in absolute filth for that to occur.

Last possibility is some sort of tick which is probably the most likely scenario in SA.

This is most likely the cause as the symptoms are the same. Doc ruptured and cleaned out the wound. Since starting the heavy antibiotic and antiseptic creams, the affected area is healing now.

If it is, then you need to heed the advice about your laundry etc.
 
Most insects are from indigenous insects so you'd want a someone whose profession has had most experience of dealing with this. ... ~Traditional healer.~

From what I understand the easiest way to get rid of mango fly larvae is to put some Vaseline over the wound then wait for the larvae to come up for some air, then grab it with tweezers and pull it out.

Noted. What happened is that we left his swimming costume out to dry and the next morning he wore it while still damp. I never knew the dangers of this and after reading the online articles, I've learnt my lesson.

I read this as well but since we were at the doc, we decided to cut/rupture it and clean it out immediately.

Apparently squeezing also works, but you have to be careful to not squish them while they're still inside you.

My money is on a Staph infection and not insect eggs.

Did your son have any sores in his nose/nostrils leading up to this? Where on the body is the "bite"?

From my mistake of checking this on Wikipedia, it seems to occur all along the east coast of Africa including Natal. :eek:

I've never had things lay eggs in me. Ja that poor child. Jinne that must be hond sleg. its mos like that alien movie ekse.
