I currently have a single view dish and LNB can I get a splitter and just split the single view LNB and then hook up the decoder or must I install a dual view LNB?

thanks,

You'll need a dual LNB if you want to make use of the PVR funcionality, i.e. view one channel, record one channel.

Read somewhere that a single LNB will work but you won't be able to record. Can't verify this, though.

ya if u use the splitter the guide works so so
u can only record horizontal channels and watch horzontal while it records and same for vertical etc... but to save your hair and use all of the functions the dual lnb upgrade is recommended

Do yourself a favour, buy a dual LNB. Splitting from a single LNB is not recommended. You'll be happier if you upgrade to a dual, I promise.

+1 for dual LNB - easier setup in the long run.

You can also get a SAT CR LNB, which wotks on a single cable, but it's about 2.5 times the price of a dual LNB - in all honesty, I'd go the for dual LNB and run of these types of dual RG6 cables.
I recently did my mother's HD PVR installation, and got the dual LNB and the dual cable from a chap called "izs" on Bid or Buy - cost me R209.95 for the Elsat Dual-LNB and R90 for 20m of dual RG6 cable (plus 35 for courier in JHB) - Makro sells the dual LNB alone for R399!
...and it works perfectly! ;)

BTW - you'll also need a few F-Connectors for this - izs can also supply these if needed. He's based in Rosettenville, JHB - you can also collect if urgent, but the courier was next day anyway!
He's also got a shop: http://www.justelectronics.co.za/
