Hey guyz im new here. I got an HP530 notebook, runing vista home 4 a while now but want to test winXP on it but cant seem to get it to work.
I insert the XP cd,boot from it, it loads the drivers n things then after that i just get a blue screen filled with white wording and the notebook reboots.

Can any1 help me plz and is it worth putting XP on? Will all the drivers function correctly?

Firstly, you need to google and find tutorials to correctly dual boot Vista and XP on the same setup.

I would suggest using an XP SP3 copy as well. Search for that as well and the correct method to slipstream XP SP3 to a new disc for installation.

Lastly, I'm on GPRS at the moment, so can't browse around, but check HP's support site for your laptop if they have XP drivers available.

teraside's answer is correct: You need a copy of Windows XP with integrated SP2 or SP3 and you need to change a setting for your hard drive in the BIOS. I believe the new setting is "native" mode. That should solve your problem. If not, then you can always slipstream the driver into a new copy of XP and use that to install. There are quite a few threads dealing with this particular problem, so a search should turn up some help.

In your BIOS you need to change your S-ATA setting to be Native... Then boot from the WinXP CD and it will work fine... I have done it on a couple of HP530's... PM me if you are struggling...

Anyone else find that the sound driver really sucks? Or is it the mobo or speakers - i struggle to hear anything even on full ball on these 530's.

Ditto.

This is all you need to do to install XP. Just remember to DL new drivers

Hey guyz i got it working! Running XP on this thing is so much better than VISTA and Ivork i agree the sound really sucks on these notebooks, prob has a very tiny speaker or sumthn. Thanks a lot for the help people.

Oh just 1 question, with VISTA i could change the powerplan to HP Optimized when using the battery, how do i do this on XP?
