Hi guys

I'm male 25, my corsa lite is worth approx R38000 book value.
What would you say I should be paying insurance wise.

I am currently paying about R450 per month with a R5000 excess, people seem to think thats a tad high.

it all depends how old u are, how long you've been driving, male or female, the area you live in, where your car is parked at night etc...

Agree with hugo69er, also it depends if its a single package and what perks - is there a cash back? is there a car hire option when car is at panel beaters, etc, etc

My wife was paying R380 at First4Women for a R60K book value ATOS and she is 35. We now pay R200 at Hollard but its part of a package deal (car, bicycle, business, house)

This reply is sooo funny!! :D

The OP starts off by saying that he is male and 25 and hugo69er says that it depends on age and sex....love it when people really read the posts before replying!! :D :p

@OP - that does sound a tad high, and I know that Outsurance will give you a better deal on excess. Phone them and then do a Hippo search (different group of insurers) and then see how good or bad your deal is.

Lol Fazda I am with Outsurance,

No fancy extra's that I am aware of, car is locked inside a security complex at night, never been in an accident, been driving for 7 years.

Think I should shop around

i was just giving him the different things that insurer companies look at...
but anyways high 5!!! you say it was so funny!!
i really don't see how it can be sooo funny...

OK, with Outsurance you can actually negotiate your excess, so phone them and throw a wobbly and tell them that you are going elsewhere. You will suddenly be transferrred to the lady in charge who will give you a much better deal...before you do that, however, do your homework and get some figures from Hippo. :D

If you near PMB don't use Outsurance their dealers suck here not sure about other towns :(

Had tons of problems with their dealers and tow truck services

Still havent even got the emblem for my mazda car which they were suppose to have ordered last december plus the body work in front has gaps under the bonnet

They also charged me R5000 for nothing

Boet, Outsurance doesn't order the badge. Best you get hysterical with the idiots who fixed your car.

Yes, definately. Stay away from Outsurance. You will find out when you try to claim.

Lets see if something happens again with outsurance have to use the same crap dealer since theres no other ones on their list for my area

Plus Outsurance takes responsibility for their dealers so they have to fix the problems from them since they signed them up on their system as accredited dealers

Don't want someone else ending up with same problem if their area is the same like mine

Don't feel like telling the service levels from outsurance call centre we got :P

Sounds a bit high to me too, especially the 5K excess.

Big factors which influence the cost of insurance (aside from age, sex, car model, year and value) is the area in which you live, and where your car is parked at night. If parked in an open parking lot, insurance is higher. It gets lower if parked in a locked up car port, and even lower when locked up in a garage. Another big factor is if you have a tracker installed or not. Also, if you are living in Hillbrow, your insurance is gonna be a lot higher then if you were living in Melrose, for e.g, as Hillbrow is a high risk area for theft and car-jackings. Another very important factor, is whether you've been in a car accident recently (last 2 or 3 years) - which again increases your risk factor.

Best way to check if you are getting ripped off or not is to get new quotes from a few insurance companies. They take all your details and risk factors, and put it into their system and the algorithms churn away and spit out a figure.

Goto Hippo.co.za and enter your details, and it will present you with quite a few quotes. Choose the cheapest one that matches your needs, and switch to them right away.

I tend to do this exercise once a year to make sure I'm getting the best deal.

The fact that we've managed to extend the funny comment this far down the thread is funny :D A little nervous now about claiming, although I wanna sell the car soon roll on bonus.

Couldn't help but notice that you DO have a lot to chirp about...telling posters to get tampons and telling others not to get hysterical. But them again...you call people Boet, which may be the dumbest habit in the world. Try to be nice:)

Boet, you obviously don't know me, as I have been around here for quite a while, and most of the people know exactly who I am, and when I am saying something tongue in cheek or not.

Might I respectfully request that you wind your neck in and put me on ignore if you are incapable of understanding my sense of humour....:p
