I see someone mentioned the dual core 8xx series intel chips. What about the 9xx series? They have 2x 2mb cache per core + HT.
the 9xx series is 65nm compared to 90nm of the 8xx series

lol

had a 7900gt lying around, so put that in with an x6800 and a 975xbx, and for kicks fired off 3dmark01
you know the matrix scene, lobby...? first run is on low detail, the frame counter got pegged at 999 for around 8 seconds. Has anybody ever seen that happen before?

some more benchies, because I am a nice guy.

Got a 7950gx2 from asus, plumbed into the 975xbx mobo and conroe (yes, you can do sli on the intel chipset with this card because the 7950gx2 is seen as "one" card)
all defaults:
3dmark01:44833
3dmark03:33002
3dmark05:14713
3dmark06:8347

Very good, not fantastic though.
upped core and mem on gfx to 609 core, 800mem
3dmark01:46790
3dmark03:38433
3dmark05:16131
3dmark06:9645 (sm2, 4334...sm3, 4179...cpu, 2520)

Tomorrow maybe will spend some time with cpu multi, fsb and memory timings, everything is still at default bar the 7950gx2.
This looks very promising to me.
Would love to see where this can end up if I ever decide on exotic cooling( intel stock hsf in use right now)

<edit> also managed a 7928 in pcmark05..I believe this is a rather strong score)

Intel is back guys.

How about uploading those 3D Mark results to the Online Results Browser and then posting the links?

no, i dont see the point, i have already proven the results are valid.
anyway, i am not a futuremark "pro" user, just a lowly junkie, so can only have one active project at a time i believe.

Yes that's true but that is per benchmark.
ie you can have one active profile in 01/03/05/06 so you should be able to link all foure results if you want. :/

Just looked at your score and I'm thinkin' your GFX card could be running in single GPU mode.

Why?
Well its obvious the conroe kicks ass and you're destroying my scores sideways in GT1/GT2/GT3 but not nature.
Your score sez ~430fps but I'm at 600fps+ using 1 7900GT. I was thinkin' you should be at atleast 500fps and if so your score hould be in the 50K region.
Not that its a big deal, but maybe check again that the second GPU is indedd working.

will check it out, but i know multi gpu is ticked. I got a bunch of scores from a 7900gt from yesterday, so can compare 7950gt to 7900gt (which you know is just doubled up) and can easily see the increases...def. dual cpu. nature is at 495.3fps for 7950gt....yesterday, on 7900gt I got 42914 so it doesnt look like it scales properly with this driver.
Prob. cr@p nvidia driver, not whql approved...stock 84.21 didnt recognise the card.
on orb, go filter results by nvidia7950gt, and u will see my score ranks about 3rd for this particular card, so I doubt there is something wrong...more likely the card+drivers combo isnt mature yet.
Doesnt make sense why your 7900gt is so handsome though:)
Read some review and other sites have also found anomalies with 7950gx2, as in, in some games it scored lower than single 7900gt. Hopefully nvidia can address this.
still, wicked scores:)

I didnt say you need to prove anything. Why you getting so defensive?

You can have multiple projects.

what I mean is, why the heck must I go and upload 4 more benches to orb, which takes about an hour at least to do, when I have already told you guys the results? I have work to do during the day:)
I know I sound defensive..sorry, thats my nature
peace bruvva
when I find the time, I will do it, but really really really bored of benching today. cool.

Yeah no worries I am just curios to see teh results in the ORB, nice and organised. :)

The way things are looking Conroe might be my first Intel CPU since my Pentium II 350. Unless of course AMD comes to the party (Which I think they will)

Na uh, AMD is comin to no parties in atleast a year if not more. AMD is right royal screwed this time.
Slowest Conroe is quicker than FX62 at less than half the price?
Can't beat that unless FX62 starts selling for R2.5K ZAR
