Intel purchases McAfee

Are Intel bored? Do they just have too much money that they know what to do with? Why would anyone want to purchase McAfee Inc?

Umm because they are leading company in security for corporates.

Intel want to try and start implementing hardware security in the fight against malware.

Ugh... Whenever I think of McAfee my stomach wants to protest. Oh, I'm sure Intel wouldn't have done it unless they weighed up their pros and cons. I just wince each time I see the McAfee name on anything. Yuck.

I have to agree fully Lycanthrope. Sure they might be the "leading company in security for corporates" But their products are ****E!!! I mean, fully updated, I scanned my work laptop and found 2 infections of some worm. Restarted, ran Malwarebytes and it clean an additional 75 infections...and this is freeware, abet great freeware...but still...

+1 Why would anyone want to purchase McAfee Inc? You wanna tell me that Intel's research and development department is more stupid than that of McAfee? They can't figure out how to create their own virus scanners?

This is most likely just a good business decision on Intel's part. Think about how many companies ship McAfee preinstalled on systems, and how many of those new system owners keep said product because of warranty, lack of experience, etc. McAfee don't make the best AV software, but they do know how to get it sold...
