Intel releases Core i5 processors

Yay! only took them 5 years to catch up to AMD and make affordable desktop processors with an integrated memory controller. :p

I think you have to be gay to buy one of these. why not just by an i7 x58 with a 920? the boards cost more or less the same so why not just go for tripple channel ram? it makes no sense bringing in a "mainstream" board that you can't upgrade to i7 in future.

maybe i just don't get what intel are trying to do here.

More or less the same performance using a lot less power. But I think Intel are just trying to confuse everyone.

interesting, now if only i had some money.... :o

Not really day sleeper, i saw an asus board from esquire for 1.3k ex vat. That is about 1k cheaper, the cpu's however are pretty much the same as the 920 strangely.

So what are the perfomace gains between the Core2 Quads vs i5? And no not worried about power consumption etc. Just why would I want to go from a 3.0ghz C2Q to an i5?

They are the same - if you want to upgrade, switch to AMD.

From what I have read is basically the hyperthreading is the "Only" biggest advantage. Hmm... I'll skip this one for now...

My biggest problem is deciding between is LGA 1156 or LGA 1366. Upgrade is inevitable. :)

And it still looks like I want to get the i7 920, now if only there would be some news about the new DX11 cards.
