Intel releases Core i5 processors

If you guys actually want a faster pc you should spend the money on a good SSD rather.

Like IRG for instance would see a much faster pc by putting in an SSD drive than upgrading to I7.

I was going to upgrade to I7 but my pc is so fast with an ssd i cannot imagine how much faster it could go, nor do i need an i7 pc because the ssd makes everything fly. People always look at the price on SSD with shock and horror but have no problems dropping 5-10k on a new mobo and cpu which will still get bogged down by a slow hdd.

That might be true but my current computer is a socket 478 celeron. Think I'd see a performance improvement with a core i7 and a SSD?

Yea i did not mean people who run old computers though, i meant people who for instance like irg have a q6600 or a reasonably fast cpu :D

You will see massive gains just from the cpu LOL.

there's a review on guru3d that shows that these new CPUs match the i7 920

What SSD are u running? and cost ?

BTW when I upgrade i do so only because it is definately worth it, I went from a socket 939 AMD64 3000+ to my C2Q6600 which was a massive increase in performance - ddr400 to ddr2 1066, AGP X1600 to PCIe 8800gt (now GTX280). That was a sweet upgrade. And now with my CPU OC'd an upgrade has to be really good to beat what I got!

Well i got 2 ssd's, one is a samsung 128gb and the other is a g.skill which i use for work due to the 200mb read/write

SSD's cost about 3-4k, also it depends what you use your pc for, for gaming they are good but not necessary but for running your pc super fast they are awesome. Everything opens and runs so much faster on an ssd and i would say my q9550 would whip an i7 system with a 7200rpm drive because as fast as the i7 system is it still needs to wait for the 7200rpm drive to open stuff where as the ssd opens stuff instantly.

Do you just run the OS on the SSD or are all your files on it?
