Intel wants Thunderbolt 3 to be everywhere

Intel has announced that it will release its Thunderbolt 3 protocol specification to the industry next year.

It took industry 10 years to adopt USB and USB specification is not complicated after all.

Is thunderbolt still a thing? Thought it went the way of Intel's other failed projects like rambus.
